ZL1 outruns GT500 at VIR: Lightning Lap 2013
#142
The gt500 don't have the content for lap after lap track days. It lacks the coolers for it. I was going off price as tested because the cars in the mag have all been optioned for optimal performance, says that right there in black and white. BTW all you have to do is watch the video's on these cars and it is easy to see which car handles better.....I don't need a mag for that. Funny how the mph keeps goin down for the ZL and up for the gt500 according to you.
I was talking about these two in a drag race, not road course. That was my point when saying I would never pay for the handling package being that I would never race it on a road course.
The only reason why the MPH is going up is because I pulled a you bringing up modding with money saved.
The GT500 is a 125-128mph car all year long. If you don't think that car can pick up 12mph with a tune, pulley, and nitrous you're drunk of the kool-aid.
The ZL1 is a 113mph car mid summer and a 118mph car mid winter. With a very rare 120mph pass here and there.

I love how yet another thread about these to some how turns into a dicusion based on its ability at the drag strip. Isn't this a thread on it's times on a road course? Is there any proof that clearly states the gt500 was ran on a wet/damp track or is that just speculation coming from svtpp? Like I said before if that's true then I agree the results are pointless but nobody has been able to produce any factual information to that rumor.

I've never once denied the ZL1 is the better handling car. I said the GT500 can match and better its lap times. If road course racing was only about handling nothing would run faster lap times than a Miata.

I have also ALWAYS beat posted mag times with my GM cars. I see know reason why it would'nt go faster also.
Also as poster above said this is a roadcoarse thread.....read title.

Well excuse us then... j/k
What ET and mph have you guys seen in hot weather? Curious to know how different weather affects the performance on those cars. I have to believe it's the same for the GT500. The ZL1 is sensitive to heat soak and really wakes up in cool weather. When I dyno'd mine it did 513 rwhp right off the street and 535 rwhp after a cool down. I will hit the track this Spring, but I will be happy to run a high 11.

Ford also has a parameter in the PCM that will heavily restrict power until the coolant temp hits 170*, which means you can't roll a cold car to the line and make a pass. I actually trapped 109 like this once, then hotlapped it and ran 124.
