Default 2014 Z/28 tested!

This is what we've all been waiting for. The car is pretty bad ***, a bit pricey but I'm sure it'll be a collectors item. Hope to see a few in person.

Hm...even if money weren't part of the equation I think I'd rather have a ZL1, but I guess I'm just not the target market.

I think if they took the best of the Z/28, the best of the ZL1, and made a car with that, they'd have the perfect Camaro. Basically a 3,800lbs car with the ZL1 powertrain mated to the Z/28 suspension, tires, body mods, brakes, and track oriented specific upgrades. The non-HID headlight and missing fog lights kill it for me. lol

anyways...

I noticed something interesting: if you go onto Chevy's site and "build your own" Z/28 there is a LEASE option; ultra-low mileage 48 month lease at 40K miles. I find that really strange that there is a lease option for a supposedly limited run vehicle. I think with the A/C & radio options the lease payment would be $600 for 48 months.

Can you say "best Camaro ever"? 427ci, 6-spd manual, and a handling thats rivaling top notch sportscars from all around the world.

That would be awesome, but the lack of that second thing has a lot to do with the first thing.

I also meant ~3,800lbs car including ALL the amenities of a FULLY LOADED ZL1; dare I even say in 'VERT form? Imagine that: a FULLY loaded ZL1 with the ALL Z/28 specific "goodies" coming in at ~3,8000lbs.

It'd be like Super Shredder.

Just how good is the Z/28? Motor Trend tested it against a 2014 GT-R track edition ($117k) and 911 Turbo S ($199K) at Barber Motorsport Park, a 2.2 mile track, and it beat both, but got slaughtered in the drag race, 12.3 to 11.0 (GT-R) and 10.9 (911). Nothing a heads/cam pkg wouldn't be able to overcome.

Congrats to GM surpassing both of its targets. Take a look at this cars parts list before commenting on price.

The 2000 Cobra R was 55k and ford lovers clamored over it. Factor in inflation and this car cost the same and it is beating the best cars on the road. The Cobra R did not accomplish that.

In person it looks every bit of a $75k car and the specs back that up. Just because you can't afford to buy one, doesn't mean it's not priced right. This isn't a 2002 Z28 and isn't meant that that same demographic.

And then you'd have people complaining about a $100k+ camaro with carbon fiber body panels and serious chassis lightening. To add a convertible top to that would probably be a no back seat, no sound deadening, and no radio or a/c

Very cool article, but I'll be waiting for the summer and their Best Drivers Car comparison where they said the Z/28, GT3, and updated GT-R Nismo will be there.

If I had the funds, I would definately consider it. Especially since the chances of buying factory cars with a NA 427 may never come around again. If a lottery ticket comes through, I am getting one.

My favorite Camaro so far. (Flame Suit on...I'd have to install a good stereo). Slap a Magnacharger on that bitch and you are set.

Don't forget the tires that the Z comes on. It is as close to a full slick as you can get. That makes a big difference on a roadciurse.
