Viper price drop... Thoughts?

Viper price drop... Thoughts?
Was watching the Fast Lane Daily on youtube and apparently Dodge is dropping the price of the introductory viper to 80 grand. Does anybody think it will be competitive with the new Z06 now with the price drop? It sure does make it more appealing.

The Viper is my favorite domestic vehicle ever made. I just wish I had the coin to afford one.

They're both over priced, IMO; regardless of what they're compared to. Generally, all new cars are far too expensive due to Government mandates & electronic Nannies that cost even more after they age & begin to fail.
Admittedly though, wouldn't mind buying a Stingray .

V10 N/A vs V8 supercharged... I still feel like the Z06 would outperform the viper seeing as it isn't going to be the track edition that is still a lot more. If they can drop the price that much and make money makes me wonder how much build up is in the vette as well.

No kidding. Aside from buying one for a lot more money, they just took a HUGE depreciation hit.
Imagine owning a 1-2 year old Viper with 1000 miles on it. You paid ~$110k for it and it was still worth $95-100k on a Sunday. Now Monday rolls around and it's worth >$80k. That's fucked up.

i cant imagine many people who shell out 110k for a sports car, giving a crap if it depriciates more or less. i mean if u can drop that money on a viper, resale value isnt priority number 1.

Eh.. A $20,000 drop in value over night would kinda **** me off regardless of how much money I have. I'm sure there are some collectors that wouldn't be too happy about it either.

If I won the lottery and bought one, maybe I wouldn't care, but for those who worked hard, earned their money and spent it on a Viper, they will not be happy about this at all.

And if you think having money to spend on a Viper means you don't care about "losing out" on $20k, you're dreaming. People go batshit crazy and demand refunds if the $10 item they bought at walmart last week in on sale for $7 this week.

Dodge is doing a pretty good job of regulating car dealers that price gouge. Giving more to people that don't and less for people that do. As far as vipers and hellcats go.

Of course this is an embarrassing move for Dodge to have to make but price-wise, I think it's a very competitive car now.

People should have seen this coming. It was a smart move on Dodge/SRT part to do this. Otherwise the Viper would be no more. So from a business stand point this makes a lot of sense.

The Viper is now selling at a loss. Hardly a good move for Fiat/Chrysler, but I have a feeling Fiat isn't as interested in the Viper as many Mopar fans would like to believe seeing that they own/control Ferrari.
Either way, the Gen 5 is a beautiful car, and I would love to own a TA version. My shop budget has eliminated my new sports car budget sadly!

I'm seeing a lot of them actually upgrading to new ones...they knocked $15k off the price of a new one, and on top of that offered another $15k off to current Gen 5 owners. Tony (Nine Ball) traded his white 2013 in on a new white T/A, and kept his car payment the same. I've seen a couple other owners on the Viper forum that did the same thing...I don't see them complaining at all.

IMO, the price drop still looks bad on Dodge in the eyes of the automotive world.
