New impala ss has an LS1!!
I sure wish it was rwd. At least it has brought respect back to the impala. The 96 is one of my favorite cars ever. FWD and all its still pretty badass. Here it is go check it out.

Re: New impala ss has an LS1!!
Yea, that must be an interesting feeling, I drive a lot of SAAB's and those things have whicked torque steer, and thats an 4cylinder Turbo...imagine a modded LS1..
That whole LS1 impala setup got the green light, but got red flagged for some reason...
I will have to read the article in my magazine again..

East/West setup for spark plug changes, I'm sure that would still be easier than the current setup, but only if you had a lift, the front side would be easy to get, I assume the 2 manifolds are different

Well, I've got a spare ls1 long block and a gutless 2000 Impala. Now all I need is a transaxle, cnc milling machine and lathe, tig welder, six months off work, $$$

371 hp on the front wheels????????? You'd be going through tires on a weekly basis! Forget about trips to the track! At least if the car was black you might not see as much of the burnt rubber inside the wheel well and down the rocker panels!

Can you take the body off to work on the engine?

Yikes! Imagine the posts on a future Impala SS board whining about how hard the plug changes are!

Is anyone else getting tired of GM's song-and-dance routine where they dangle something awesome in front of the show crowds that looks to be production-tooled, then pull it back with a cruel laugh? Screw the damn (g)Impy - where the hell's my Grand Prix G8?! AWD+LS1+looks-that-don't-make-me-yawn = Impy killer.

Re: New impala ss has an LS1!!
I don't care if its all wheel drive, front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. The point being that the LS1 lives on in some form, hopefully providing f-bod owners with relatively inexpensive parts down the road. GM killed the f-bod, last I heard the LS1 only lives on in the GTO come September 2003, so more power to Chevy to squeeze one into an Impala (if in fact it really happens). I have 2002 Formula with low miles and would like to have somewhat cheap parts available in 2005+ if the thing decides to self destruct. Although one cannot dismiss the torque steer issue, I mean please, It's going to be a bit goofy of a ride hammered off the line with 300+ ft/lbs of torque, but heck Americans love torque.

I was, however, under the impression that the trucks were going to continue on with the LS1-based engines for at least the foreseeable future. Is that correct?

that's one fine looking V8 powered FWD cavalier
I think I'm about giving up on GM... they can't seem to do anything right... kill off firebird, bring on teh GTO ( ) fwd V8 ... the new mustang and mustang concepts look really nice though

Re: New impala ss has an LS1!!
I'll admit for a new Impala that car looks good...... from the outside....... before the hood is raised... then to my horror what would appear under the hood.... the engine in sideways, turning the WRONG set of freakin' tires!
Hell most cars look good BLACK.
Christ on a cracker people fight the Power!
Tell them want you really want--RWD, not that "it's better than no Impala SS I guess" crap.
If I wanted a 300HP FWD V-8 I would save some extra dough and get a new Deville or Seville and ride in STYLE BABY!!

I owned a 2K Impy and over all their pretty good cruisers. POS feel apart within 16K.
As for the LS1 variant...... they`ll never build it for the public,Johnny Law might have a shot at them ?? Move over B4C
