Thumbs up More 2006 Corvette info & Z06 info

About the 2006 Z06...

From Harlan Charles, Corvette Product Manager:

* No gas guzzler tax on the Z06. City 16mpg/Highway 26mpg
* Top speed 198 mph.
* Quarter mile, 11.7 @ 125 mph.
* 1.04g on the skidpad.
* A competition gray wheel option (Q44) will be available later in the
production schedule.
* The C6 Z06 will have Halogen fog lamps....a first for Corvette.
* The smaller, 3 spoke steering wheel will be standard equipment on the 2006
Corvette.
* The 1LZ and 2LZ option codes were changed from 1SA and 1SB to help
maintain consistency in the Chevrolet lineup. The "Z" signifies the Z06
model Corvette.
* The fender badge will read "505HP."
* The front air scoop is functional.....allows air to enter the area under
the hood for engine bay cooling.
* HUD is standard equipment on the Z06.

About the base 2006 Corvette...

* Bye bye 4L65E, hello 6L80E. 6-speed Paddle Shift automatic transmission available on Coupe and Convertible. Replaces the A4.

With the A6, three driving modes: Drive, Sport, and Paddle Shift.
The Drive mode follows a specific shift schedule of predetermined shift points, while the Sport mode enables Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS). PAS modifies shift patterns when performance driving is recognized by the controller. The Drive mode optimizes shifts for smoothness, while the Sport mode enables firmer shifts for better performance. With the Paddle Shift mode, gear changes are made with manual control paddles located on the steering wheel.

Wide 6.04:1 overall ratio
First gear ratio 4.02:1, 5th gear 0.85:1, 6th gear 0.67:1
Final drive ratio 2.56:1

Paddle shift steering wheel:

* Smaller three-spoke, 9.4 inch diameter steering wheel standard on all Corvettes

* Advanced dual-stage frontal air bags with GM Passenger Sensing System.
Front passenger air bag automatically turns off when the passenger seat is un-occupied. Status indicator on the inside rearview mirror.

* XM Satellite Radio included with Bose stereo (in the 48 contiguous states). XM antenna is hidden.

* Two new exterior colors: Velocity Yellow Tintcoat (replaces Millennium Yellow) and Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat (replaces Magnetic Red Metallic)

* Titanium Grey interior color (replaces Steel Grey)

* Storm Grey convertible top color (replaces Grey)

so the 06 coupe and conv. will have available 6 speed autos! Thats awesome! What kind of top speed will they do? Gotta do at least 190mph. The 05 coupe did 186mph with the a4. Thats just amazing to me.

Well if the Z06 top speed is 198mph, I would figure the base Corvette to top out in the 180s somewhere.

But then again, with a 0.67 6th gear and a 2.56 drive ratio, it's gonna turn serious low rpms at highway speeds and higher speeds, so who knows how much room there is up top.

2.56 rear ? but the steep 1st gear in the A6 makes it pull harder than the A4 and 3.15 rear gear.(was the performance axle)

Is horsepower gonna stay the same for the 06 coupe? This drivetrain sounds too good to be true! That tranny would take anything! And this is just the coupe!

You damn right! Shelby owners better start praying! Its the only thing that can save them now! Of course ford is more or less bringing the shelby out to compete with the coupe and conv. vette.(as far as the pricing) Now in the 1/4 thats gonna be a close race but as far as handling the vette's going chew him up and spit him out!
Live rear axle=death!

GT500 nothin.... the Z06 is gonna make the Ford GT look silly.

Well, look silly with that 4-times-as-high price tag anyway.

I see it this way.

03-04 Cobra = More Expensive than 98-02 LS1 F-Bod's.
New Z06 = More Expensive than the new GT500.

Its just our turn thats all.

Thats what im taking about. You know when it comes out everybody that cant beat it is gonna say well **** it cost $75k! Just like everybody wanted to always say well the cobra is supercharged. I say **** all dat ****. Run what you brung. And of course hope you brung enough! In my case, if i get beat by anyone i just tellem "hey you got more than i can handle" No matter how much it costs or what theyve got done to it. Dont make rice!

With a different rear end that A6 will be brutal. Will the Z06 have a 3.42 rear end?
