About the base 2006 Corvette...
* Bye bye 4L65E, hello 6L80E. 6-speed Paddle Shift automatic transmission available on Coupe and Convertible. Replaces the A4.
With the A6, three driving modes: Drive, Sport, and Paddle Shift.
The Drive mode follows a specific shift schedule of predetermined shift points, while the Sport mode enables Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS). PAS modifies shift patterns when performance driving is recognized by the controller. The Drive mode optimizes shifts for smoothness, while the Sport mode enables firmer shifts for better performance. With the Paddle Shift mode, gear changes are made with manual control paddles located on the steering wheel.
Wide 6.04:1 overall ratio
First gear ratio 4.02:1, 5th gear 0.85:1, 6th gear 0.67:1
Final drive ratio 2.56:1
Paddle shift steering wheel:
* Smaller three-spoke, 9.4 inch diameter steering wheel standard on all Corvettes
* Advanced dual-stage frontal air bags with GM Passenger Sensing System.
Front passenger air bag automatically turns off when the passenger seat is un-occupied. Status indicator on the inside rearview mirror.
* XM Satellite Radio included with Bose stereo (in the 48 contiguous states). XM antenna is hidden.
* Two new exterior colors: Velocity Yellow Tintcoat (replaces Millennium Yellow) and Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat (replaces Magnetic Red Metallic)
* Titanium Grey interior color (replaces Steel Grey)
* Storm Grey convertible top color (replaces Grey)

so the 06 coupe and conv. will have available 6 speed autos! Thats awesome! What kind of top speed will they do? Gotta do at least 190mph. The 05 coupe did 186mph with the a4. Thats just amazing to me.

Well if the Z06 top speed is 198mph, I would figure the base Corvette to top out in the 180s somewhere.
But then again, with a 0.67 6th gear and a 2.56 drive ratio, it's gonna turn serious low rpms at highway speeds and higher speeds, so who knows how much room there is up top.

Well, look silly with that 4-times-as-high price tag anyway.
03-04 Cobra = More Expensive than 98-02 LS1 F-Bod's.
New Z06 = More Expensive than the new GT500.
Its just our turn thats all.
