V8 Solstice? Motor Trend says Yes!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Found this little tidbit in the November Motor Trend. It could be Motor Trend trying to force GM's hand or an insight to a potential Super Solstice. It's no secret that Pontiac has wanted a Corvette for the past 40 years. If the Solstice can remain a darling of the press and the public for a few more years, I could see a V8 coupe becoming a reality and Pontiac fulfilling a longtime dream.

A V-8 also is reportedly on the agenda for the Pontiac Solstice. We've been assured by a senior GM exec that a V-8 will fit between the chassis rails. Sounds like a recipe for a 21st-cetury Cobra

I bet they could make that thing rather cheaply. If they sold a stripped version it could go for as little as 25, but I would expect low to mid 30's or somewhere around a Goat.
If it is cheap I will buy one. If it is in the 30's I would just rather have a Vette.

Motor Trend as allways, late to the rumor mill. The "super Solstice" will be a 4 cylinder Turbo model. The Execs say it will fit because Chuck Mallett is already selling an LS2 solstice package.
No news here, move along move along.

My brother was working on the Soltice concept in the early prototype years. At that time, they where trying to fit a LS1 into the vehicle and could not get it to fit. If they place a V-8 it will probably be a smaller one than a LS1. More on the size of the Grand Prix GXP or the Bonneville.

Whenever I saw them at the drag races, i thought they were pretty cool lookin cars. Would be great with either a turbo or a v-8. A nice 5.3 would probably make those cars pretty quick.

You even have the option of an LS7 with a supercharger.

isn't the GTO already Pontiac's corvette? Granted it has no LS7, but I think that engine will stay pretty exclusive to the Vette, not many other cars deserve it.
But there is already a $38,000 option to get an LS2 powered Solstice. As far as I know there have been no 0-60 or 1/4 mile times released, but that sounds like it'd be a decently fast little critter.
But for some reason I can't seem to imagine stopping at a red an hearing a V8 rumble then glancing to my left and seeing some little ole Pontiac Solstice.
