Pontiac's version of the camaro will have the GTO name tage on it. I love Trans Am's more than any car,I have owned over 8 diff 3rd gens . I currently have 2 3rd gens and a 02 SOM WS6. I wish they would bring back the Trans AM but it's just not going to happen.

If GM needs to cut down on duplicating its market then why do they still have Trailblazer/Envoy/Rainier, the Equinox/Torrent, Yukon/Tahoe, Solstice/Sky, and so on and on and on and on, they have plenty of duplicate efforts, and with the Solstice/Sky, and the Equinox/Torrent (fairly new models) it shows that they continue to duplicate, and anyway what does it matter what division sells a car, the profits all go back to GM corporate, don't they

I haven't read much talking about the platform sharing between the new Pontiac Solstice and the new Saturn Sky (they both use the Kappa chassis shown in this link New Pontiac Solstice) perhaps because they are exciting cars.
I'd like to see a new Mustang-based Mercury Cougar, but with modern styling.
I'd like to see a Viper-based Chrysler coupe with a V-8 (think 2005 Chrysler Firepower concept).
Who would mind seeing two or three excitign cars sharing a chassis?
I know I would.
As for GM and rwd, I'll post this article that I've posted dozens of times. Pontiac would not use retro styling if they did make a new GTO or Firebird.

GM is going broke and Pontiac already has the GTO, like it or not, why would they spend $$$ developing a new Firebird when poor sales killed the last one? They have to get their asses out of possible bankruptcy before they start developing much of anything else.

Poor sales didn't kill it, Zarella and no advertising did. if gm would have invested money into it they would have gotten more money out of it, and thats why the New Camaro is here, with IRS. if you want to make money you have to spend money #1 rule and F-bodies got no love.

That is what they should make. I've shown that pic to about 20 people with only 1 person not saying holy crap that is a nice ******* car. I would buy that !!! If pontiac makes one I will buy it. I have always loved the firebird. That will never change. Now onto thinking with a cost perspective in mind.
1. How is the GTO selling comparative to The last 2 years of the Firebird ? (I personally think it's a disgrace to call that car a GTO from a looks perspective but thats just me.)
2. Would it be cheaper to make a Camaro and a Firebird. Or a Camaro and a GTO ? Assuming there would be more common interchangeable parts on the Camaro Firebird option.
I am not totally sure of those answers so please enlighten me as I'm not aware of sales figures of both cars and which combo would be cheaper to produce though I would think Camaro/Firebird would be cheaper. And if thats the case why not Discontinue the GTO and Re-do the Firebird ?
Thanks
