Z06 Look Out: Porsche To Unleash The 997 Turbo @ Geneva
http://www.autoblog.com/2006/02/13/p...rbo-in-geneva/
What a sexy beast this thing is. Porsche is likely to show both the 911 Turbo with it's innovative VTG (Variable Turbing Technology) technology which allows the angle of the turbochargers compressor blades to continually adjust. This will allow the car to take advantage both small and large turbos to maximize acceleration, driveability and reduce lag. The car is set to be rated at 480hp (up 60 from the standard 911 Turbo, and up 30 from the X50 performance upgrade equipped cars). Looks like the stage is set for another Z06 vs. 911 Turbo comparison. While the Z06 is no doubt the deal of the century, the two cars match up quite well performance wise. We'll see if the Porsches AWD provides the car with an edge over the Super Vette.
Other slightly tamer more pure 911esque competition for the Corvette will debut in the form of the naturally aspirated 911 GT3 that's apparently slated to crank out 415hp (up from 380 in the 996 car and just 5hp shy of the 996 Turbos hp rating). Both cars continue to use a traditional 6 speed clutch and stick while other manufacturers adopt SMs and AMs with a torque converter Tiptronic as an option. Judging by how hot both of these rides are, I'm anxious to see what Porsche is cooking up in terms of the RWD Turbocharged 997 GT2.

I was looking at this the other day. While a zo6 may be faster the porsche's are pretty damn impressive. The 996 is still a sweet car, nice to see a successor. It may cost but something about those cars just makes them damn sexy. inside and out. I would expect mid 3 sec zero to 60 times with not a lot of work.

Let me guess let me guess. With the money for a 911 Turbo, you could order a host of mods for your awesome Camaro and smoke this thing right? That's what you're going to say next isn't it? Isn't it? C'mon just say it.
Some people just don't get it. A true car enthusiasts nods and acknowledges greatness when he or she sees it. A fanboy bitches about how his dream car costs less or makes more hp/l or makes more torque or blah blah.

Porsche always does it right....Their cars are always look different than any other manufacturer, a lot of their cars in their line look a like, but their look is original. I think there are 2 kinds of enthusiast. There are design enthusaist and then performance. They look at the Porsche totally different depending on what they are after, I think it is a great car and would love to have one, but if I am trying to go as fast and cheap as I can there are other cars that I would get.

That depends on what you are judging that on. The C5 Zo6 would post better lap times than a 996 turbo and I expect the outcome to be the same on the newer versions. But when it comes to "feel",the edge would have to go to the Porsche. Not taking anything away from the Porsche though, it is a beautiful car and immensely capable, probably more so in the hands of the average driver, although there are very few of us that would admit to being "average" drivers. Everything that I have read about the new Zo6 says that it really takes an expert to extract the full capabilities of the car. This is coming from what I have read, God knows that I am not lucky enough to have driven either. Personally I prefer the Vette, but if I had the money I would own .... BOTH!!
