Camaro ZL1 and GT500 Mustang...wtf??
Was at the chiropractors today and picked up an MT issue that had simulated performance comparison's of the new mustang's and camaro's (still to come) and they had a forthcoming camaro "ZL1" 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and quarter mile of 11.4@130mph!! They had the GT500 at 3.6 to 60 and 11.6@128 in the 1/4. Wtf, man, those times are insane. According to those results they are faster than the new Z06 (which is already insane even for a top model vette) and hell the freaking camaro is knocking on the Enzo's door!! Something's just really wrong with that, lol. The lower models were relatively equally impressive in performance.

Yeah I did, but they were talking in the article about how with the computers now etc etc, how accurate they can simulate and calculate the performance figures. They Sim'd slolam and everything. They did say the one thing they didn't know is how good their tires will be so they had to kinda wing that I think.
I heard other reports where the GT500 turned out to be not all that fast. People were saying the previous gen Z06's (01-04) would be able to beat it, stating the main problem was the tremendous weight of the car 3900lbs. But if the car runs 11.6 @ 128mph, no way can a previous gen Z06 keep up with it in a straight line. Not sure what to beleive...
As far as the "ZL1" numbers claimed in the article, they are insane. Apparently its pretty much the same power but I believe NA and the car is lighter. Anyone know what they are supposed to cost when they come out? I didn't have time to read the whole article.

If the GT500 can run mid to high 11s stock, then the C6 ZO6 can run mid to high 10s stock with the same driver. Am I the only one that thinks it's crazy to think that the GT500 is as fast as a C6 ZO6 with the same power and 800-900lbs more?

there are computer simulations you can download off of MT website i believe that shwo the comparison between the GT500 and the ZL1. it also has the comparisons between the Z28 and Mustang GT and comparisons between the V6 tiers of them both. In every event the Camaro out performs the Mustang. i just believe it will be that fast, the ZL1 that is and the GT500. but who knows

However, if AOC is correct that Evan Smith got a best of 12.2@117 than that magazine article is WAY off. Thats a huge difference. You are talking the best run of the best driver (one of) coming up with 6 tenths and 11 mph slower time than MT claims. I also agree with silverado, it doesn't add up based on the hp/weight ratio. Sound like MT was smoking something & it sounds like generally speaking that the previous gen Z06 is probably is actually a little quicker than the new GT500, let alone the new Z06.

gt500 got its *** wooped by regular VETTE HAHAHAH. WAY TO GO FORD. mabe next year you will mabe be able to stay behind the z06 long enough to read the license
just reasd the magazine i have it. the gt500 did not leave up to its hype. i wish they would have ran the z06 vs the gt500 just to slap it more. but the z06's little brother did a good enough job with 100 less hp.......

I read that. It was a bunch of nonsense. Why would a Camaro with the same engine as the Z06 trap a few mph higher with about 500 more lbs? I don't know what salami program they used to get those numbers.
