Default Toyota Tundra truck better because the TV shows it?

There has been a lot of talk about Toyota Tundra's new ads and how
impressive they are. Here are some myths about their spots that I
have found and that should be refuted. Also, they are offering a
"IVC" type program on Tundra to help with sales.

I would guess all of you have seen the ad where the Tundra pulls a
trailer up a steep grade (a 'see-saw'), and then barrels down hill and
locks the brakes up just before the end of the ramp. Many of you have
commented on how well done the spot is visually. However, here are
the actual facts to share with people:

1. The V.O. at the beginning of the spot says...."It's tough
pushing 10,000 lbs up a steep grade". Myth: Toyota would like the
audience to believe the trailer is 10,000 lbs. Fact: It's a 5,000 lb
truck pulling a 5,000 lb trailer. A little slight of hand? You bet.

2. Then, on the way down the grade, the camera zooms in on the
brakes as the vehicles comes to a screeching halt just prior to the
end of ramp. Next time you see the ad....look for the 'mice type'.
It indicates the trailer is equipped with electric brakes.
Fact....the electric brakes stop the trailer -- not the truck. A
little slight of hand? You bet.

3. And why does Toyota have bigger brake pads? They need
them....their truck is heavier. Stopping distance between our truck
and theirs is virtually identical. And why does Toyota have a 6 speed
transmission? To improve their fuel economy....which is still 2 mpg
less than ours.

4. And don't forget....their big V8 has one axle ratio -- a
4.3. Suck fuel much? Our trucks offer several axle options to
optimize towing and fuel economy. Bottom line: OUR TRUCK IS BETTER!
Spread the word.......we can all make a difference.

I love how the brag about the huge hitch but fail to mention that it needs to be that big cince it is bolting up to a c-channel frame.
Or how they compare their largest, most powerful engine to the mainstream GM offering instead of the 6.2 or even 6.0.
Or the tiny rotor they show you on TV that is clearly not from a 1/2 ton GM even though that is who the ad is directed at.
Even the import biased magazines are putting the Chevy ahead of the Toyota, 3x so far.

Okay guys, trust me,I sell new GMC's,and have seen the Toyota's.The GMC is twice the truck. If anyone wants a fast truck, drive a new Sierra Denali with the 6.2 V-8 and 6 speed automatic. You'd have to be retarded to say the Toyota is nicer than the Denali!
Also, Toyota wants to talk about trailering, does anyone know why they don't offer a 3/4 ton.....or a 1 ton?!PLEASE!!Toyota stands no chance in this battle. We also have a 5 year/100,000 mile factory warranty.
And besides trailering, power, and brakes, drive these trucks, guys. The GMC is WAAYY nicer riding, and way more comfortable.
So,as far as I'm concerned,Toyota can suck it.

Silverado or Sierra with a 5.3L V8 gets better gas mileage than the Tundra with a V6.

Yeah I just LOVE how they insinuate that the brakes from the competition are smaller...The one in the ad is either from an OBS Chevy or a Honda Ridgeline, neither of which are the Tundras competition.....

I like that they state that their truck has 381 hp. we have seen GM under rate their hp numbers. So personally I think toyota is overrating their hp numbers. I wanna see one of them on a dyno.

I have no doubt the Toyota would outrun our 5.3 with our 4 speed auto. But let's talk apples to apples,as in our 6.2 403 hp 6 speed auto Sierra Denali, how you like them apples,Toyota??

Motor Trend tested a 4wd 5.7L Toyota. 6.0 second 0-60. Had to use 4wd to get it to hook up. MPG suck though. GM needs to put the 6 speed in other trucks and SUVs besides 2500 and > and Denali's and Caddy's.

The price of that truck was pretty high though, I doubt that the Chevy will be much higher with the 6.2, maybe even less.

The only bad thing is, it doesn't matter what you or the mags say, people always believe what they see on TV. Hopefully when more of the 6.0L and 6.2Ls make their way out there, poeple will see the truth.

They will. The Toyota's 6 speed pretty much cancels out the 4.30 rear end, and they can't do DOD b/c of DOHC.

GM 6.0L + DOD + 6 speed = market success.
And if they implement more Cam in block VVT it will just be icing on the cake.

jdustu, you're totally right. And one of the reasons that the Tundra doesn't do great in crash tests,is because it doesn't have a full-box frame.Instead,it's a 3 piece frame, which obviously makes it not as strong.Maybe they should advertise this?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought those commercials where a bit "far-fetched" from the actual truth. The tests they show made me laugh.

I'd take a 2500 HD 6.0 over a Toyota Tundra anyday....

Rafeekee,if you're getting the new body style 07',the standard motor/tranny in the 2500HD is a 6.2 v-8 with a 6 speed automatic.It's an awesome setup.

Are you sure?

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/chev...0hd/index.html

They list the standard motor as a 6.0L

That def. sounds sweet. A buddy of mine had a regular cab 6.0L w/ flowmaster straights and the thing would just plain get it. Sounded awesome too!

I'm not in the truck market yet...but I was just stating that would be my decision. I'm not sure how I feel about the new 07' styling.

Yeah, but ALL of the "sheeple"/lemming general populace that is already brainwashed by Japan, Inc. (and will ONLY buy a Camry/Accord) will take it as gospel.
