Fords New 605hp Shelby Supersnake Tested
Did any of you read the article in Road and Track on this Shelby Super Snake. It has 605hp weighs 3915lbs. Costs $70,670 Here is the performance stats. Right out of the magazine.
0-60 in 4.4 seconds
1/4 mile 12.5 @ 119mph
Top speed 150 Electroncally limited
Not really all that impressive at all. How do you build a 605hp car that runs mid 12's. People can say its the driver all they want but those guys who test these things consistently put down better numbers than you ever see that model run at the track (stock). I cant see traction being the problem because they achieved 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. If it is why doesnt ford use a traction control like the vette. The z06 with the traction on launches flawlessly. I guess the guys at ford will be scratching their heads once again trying to beat the Z06. Its a fair comparison cause they cost the same right.
The first time a Super Snake owner races a Z06 he will look like this

I see that there is potential here but why do the factory fords not perform right off the showroom floor ? There is competition all over and they are still way behind. Stock for Stock. I am all about modifying cars dont get me wrong but how about a little more to start with.

They put very timid spark tables, and with simple tweaks they live up to thier potential.
I've also heard that there are "abuse" mode programming- but I'm not too familiar with the newest EEC's. The dealerships and Ford probably don't want too many service returns.
Here's an example: 07 Shelby Cobra
We ran the car 3 times stock to get the drivetrain up to temp and get a good average HP #. The car made 421/438, then 424/427, and 419/22. I would say the blower and engine are very sensitive to heat soak.
On every run we monitored air/fuel with two widebands, boost after the blower/intercooler, and restriction before the throttle body. We also datalogged a myriad of parameters with the SCT X-Cal2 and Live Link datalogging software.
The stock tune has no timing in it at all, it's really quite disgusting. With the stock tune the air/fuel came in a little lean below 2000rpms, ran 11.5 through the mid range, and hit high 10s past 5000rpm. The car makes about 9psi of boost in stock form, just like the guage on the dash says. With the stock airbox the MAF is almost pegged, reading 4.95v.
Now that we had some good data on a stock car we started playing with the tune. When it was all said and done we arrived at 482RWHP and 477RWTQ, no you're not reading that wrong, that is approximately a 60RWHP gain.

Thats impressive numbers. It would be nice if ford would tune them that way for the sake of (stock) numbers. It kind of sucks that the potential is there but they dont tap it from the factory.
I just read in this article that there is an option of a non-ford spec blower with no warranty on the blower that you can put on upping the supersnake numbers to 725+bhp that is crazy. Gut that thing and make it so it doesnt weigh 4000 lbs and you will own the street.

Amazing Judging a car's 1/4 mile by a magazine...your trusted magazines have said that a C6z06 is a 12.2 second car. Bottom line magazine's suck at 1/4 mile times and they have showed that time and time again...the car is most likely a lhigh 11 second car, hell expect mid 11s with perfect conditions with 6.4 hp/lb ratio...then add the drag radials and it will run mid 11s probably all day.

There is probably no car ever made (save for late 60s, big block muscle/pony cars) that is more severely UNDER-TIRED than that (and the GT500/KR) car. Wider/stickier street rubber alone would make A LOT of difference. And yes, I know that they cannot fit too much more in back on those things.

SSNISTER Yeah well drive a z06 on the street with it off. Then try it with the tracton control. I am willing to be you have not been in one because if you did you would know the zo6 doesnt use the cheezy Fbody traction control. It works alot better. You would never know its on anyways until you shut it off and are blowing the tires off constantly. Drive a Z06 and you will see. YOUR traction control on the other hand if you have it on your SS does suck.

Frank Dukes doesn't give one **** about the looks of a 70,000 dollar car. If it runs a mid 12, well them Mr. Dukes wont drive it. You could buy a H3, drop a decent motor in it with some supporting mods and you could run a 12.0 AND go MUD RIDING

I went to a dyno day with my car club and the GT500 pre and post tune numbers are no exaggeration. These guys pulled 49 rwhp out of a car in less than 15 minutes. The come with a limp dick tune from the factory.
Even with the tune it wouldnt pull on a '08 C6 though. The C6 pulled on him all the way up to 150. The cars just weigh to much.

Only a tool would use TC at the track, it SLOWS the car down.
Unless your a crappy driver, then I guess you may need it.

What if you're wet racing? I agree with you though, TC generally slows you down and neuters the car...

What I don't understand is why Ford continues to slop out variations on the mustang, each new one is supposed to be the "Z06 Corvette" killer and none...none of them can even touch it. For that matter, the last "Z06 Killer" couldn't even hang with a stock C6 until it was modded(drs,pully,tune..).They're just capitolizing on the Shelby name trying to make a quick buck while their ship is sinking. 600+HP and runs 12's...yes, I know someone out there will beat the 12.5 magazine test, it always happens, but c'mon...there's Z06's in the high 10's with drs only, with 100 less HP. Ford should have continued to build the GT or at least go towards the Shelby concept that looked like a cross between the viper and GT, not just throw the kitchen sink into a bunch of cookie cutter mustang bodies and charge $60,000 ++. It's an insult to the smart consumer and will contribute to more and more b.s. claims. 100% of the "stock" GT500s that claimed 11's on true stock tires were false. I'd venture to say the same will happen with this car, except there will be claims of 10's on drs, to try and outshine the Z06. In my personal experience," as tested in magazines" 1/4 mile times are about .3 to .5 seconds off the true times a really good driver could get if the conditions were all perfect. That puts this SuperSnake at a 12.0 on stock tires...maybe.For that much green, no thanks...I'll stick to my $40K C6 with $3500 in mods and run low 11's on stock tires all day long....
