"Won't you still have to pay the tax when you have the car registered?"
Depends on your state, and with whatever state it also depends on how honest you are.

Why all the hate?? I wouldn't be surprised if the 6.1 has more power than the current 6.1's (don't really see them keeping the same power in this motor for a completely new car). You guys are also forgetting that the concept version was said to be a lot heavier than the production model so I don't think it will be as big as a boat as some of you are claiming. I love the SRT's interior and performance (huge SRT 300's and magnums run 13.0's and some claim high 12's) and I think this car will be in the 12's for sure... let the muscle car wars begin

This car and a used C6/LS3/M6 are the two cars I am considering for the future. I really dig the old school muscle car and badass attitude of this new Challenger. Plus it is a large bruiser good for my size.

The new 6.1's have a wide range of performance parts out there - heads, cams, headers, intakes, superchargers, etc. Not many shops or companies have a selection though, so the choices are limited.
The tuning is the only problem, so that limits the mods you can really do unless there is a shop that actually can tune the HEMI software. I'm sure out of the box, the Challenger will hit a high 12 all day (the SRT-8 300C's hit low 13s, but weigh considerably more) and mid 12s with good DA, traction and drivers due to the stick shift option. With the mods available... I see 10 second passes definately possible.

I think it is flat out kickass. This car is just the ticket for those of us too young to have experienced the Muscle Car era the first time around .I will not be getting one since I already have a 2 door performance car. But if I didn't have the Formula and I could afford the Challenger, I would have been at the Dodge dealership this morning. I think it is heads and shoulders above the 2010 Camaro. Might not be as fast as the Camaro; but I like it better.

Most dealers around here are asking 10k-15k over msrp with 1k-5k deposit. We found a dealership thats offering a 3k deposit and 5k over msrp. Which is the cheapest I have found yet. Probably going to put the deposit down tomorrow.
I have been tracking the challenger since I first heard about its several years ago. I had a 5.7L jeed grand, and that thing was fast...let alone the 6.1l.

More details are leaking know ! There saying later a 6.4 L Hemi will be replacing the dated 6.1 hemi! I would wait for that one which is reported to have 450-500hp.

The 6.4L hemi has been mentioned for the Challenger since its conception. Problem right now is the 6.4L hemi is racing version only. Theres no production version yet, once thats fixed their should be a limited version with the 6.4L hemi.
Plan to wait a year for the 6speed 6.1L btw. Rumor has it only 5,500 6.1L 5speed auto the first year.
