Default What it takes to hit 498 rwhp on an auto 2009 cts v

Due to all the emails i have been getting regarding what mods work, what dont. How much you gain, ect.. I will post alot of stuff in this thread. Last week i had some free time to mess with an auto V and my manual on the same day. I did alot of different mods all thru the day and here are the results.

On a STOCK automatic CTS v doing the runs in 4th gear, "Which is a little off due to the transmission not having a direct 1:1 like the 4l60e does" With a Tune, free airbox mod and putting in electric exhaust cutouts, the vehicle will gain 52 horsepower to the wheels over stock.

This is without messing with the trans controller at all. Bone stock programming on it. With the transmission mods, they would be higher but it not what im wanting to show right now.. On the manual trans cars hp is alot higher with the same mods.

These mods where done in steps to show how much is gained between each change.

runfile 100 = Stock automatic trans
runfile 93 = stock manual trans
This is showing BONE STOCK automatic and a BONE STOCK manual. SAME dyno. The manual is lower in horsepower, but im guessing because the gear ratio difference from 1:1 vs 1:18 gear of the transmissions.

If you notice the Dip at 4000, That is caused by instablity and not smooth air coming into the mass air meter. At 4000 rpm is where the engine switches to 100% mass air signal instead of a ve blend. Shutting off the maf and using straight coeficient tables gets rid of that spot. Also does cutting out the bottom of the air box and still using a maf gets rid of it too..

Second dyno:

This shows Close up of only the auto dyno stock.

Third dyno sheet:

This shows How much you will gain with bone stock car, mail order tune, free airbox mod and electric cutouts after the cats.

In person, dyno numbers would be higher as timing can be played with a little more in depth. Gain from stock is Not bad for an easy 50+ hp to the wheels. NO trans programming was done yet on this dyno graph. So full TM was in effect.

Fourth dyno sheet:

This shows what you gain bone stock with just the mail order tune for the auto trans ctsv. With the tune AND the free air box mod you can see it gains 20hp! WITH NO OTHER PROGRAM CHANGE. Just do the mod and it will gain that and adjust itself on its own. With no tune, just the airbox mod, the vehicle only gained 4 hp. You can see at 4000 rpms, the stock box starts to starve the engine for air after the tune.
Run 103 was just the mail order tune.
Run 104 showed with the airbox removed.

Fifth dyno sheet:

This one shows a stock dyno run vs a mild mail order tune all else stock.

Thanks for sharing Jess.

Regarding tweaking the Trans. How much do you think it will help? Curious how much other cars picked up if you don't mind sharing.

These 09 ctsv's and zr1's are gonna be sweet when someone goes mod crazy on them and swaps pullies, throws on aine badass long tubes, full 3" dual dual exhaust and a 150 shot for good measure. 750rwhp+ here we come

shweet. Go find Hennessey and put it to them Jess...Im sure they are charging uber cheese for their 610 crank hp package....which i dont think even puts down 498.

Why is the auto putting down more than the 6 speed manual? How is there more drivetrain loss in the manual?

Thanks for the complements. I have some cool stuff comming up soon.

As for the difference in hp between the 2, im guessing is the Gear ratios. The manual has a 1:1 gear. Where as the only one close in the auto is 4th but it is 1.15:1.

So im guessing it is just a gear multiplier gain. ????? Nothing else explains it. Someday ill get the ambition to just pull a motor and stick it on a motor dyno.

so when you line up the 6 speed manual vs the auto.....with an equally good driver.,....will the auto cut better 60 foot, 0-60 and 1/4 times because its putting the power down better???

....sorry if im misunderstanding.....but gear ratio's are something I unfortunatly know nothing about

Think of it as a 10speed bike. how hard it is to crank the pedal in 10 vs 1.

ahh ok. but in the bike theres a payoff.....less revs more ground gained.

will the auto cut better 60 foot, 0-60 and 1/4 times?

I hate to say it, but I love the power the new V makes, but putting a charger on the older V gets you about the same power with better looks if you ask me. The new V looks killer from the front, but the rear is huge. It looks like a hot woman in the face, but she has a huge assssss. A 10 from far, but far from a 10! 04ctsvfl....you might actually be a little crazy to get rid of that car to get the 09. For the money that you are going to lose or have to pay for a new 09, you could get crazy with the 04. LSX/Kenne Bell combo would not be out of the question. Just remember you heard it here first!!!!!!!!

The '09 is a superior car through and through. Even with a Maggie.

BacDoc, you are definetly correct when it comes to stock, but when it comes for dollar to dollar you coudn't be more wrong. You look at paying 60+ for an 09 and have cast internals struggling to put down 498 at the rear. Or you pick up a Gen1 V for high teens(04ctsvfl looks much better than stock already) add 8k for a built LSX 427 with forged internals. 3K for worked AFRs. 7K+ for a badass Kenne Bell. Looking at less than 40k investment for something that puts down over 600+ easily to the rear and can be driven daily. This would be a 4 door Shelby GT 500 KR killer. Only problem is the rear. Neither the 1st gen nor the 2nd gen will probably hold that kind of power out back.

Well if we're spending $40k...

I love my V but the loist of problems is a mile long. It's takes serious cash to get to stock V2 numbers. The maggie V1's aren't even as fast as the stock V2. And if you're judging dollar for dollar you have to use sticker prices. For $10k more your getting twice the car in the V2.

This time next year, I'll pick up a V2 in the $40k's or less.
