Default soon to be a 2005 cts-v owner, had some questions

hello, My name is Faraz.

I am in the market for a 2005 cts v, and i found one that i am interested in and i test drove it today and loved everything about it. I have several questions about the CTS V since this will be my first american car.
I have own several cars such as : 2004 twin turbo 350z, 2005 supercharged g35, 2002 s2000 and lastly my 2005 m3.

I think im ready to go to an american car now, so i was wondering if you guys can help me out a bit.

**** The Car i saw today was a 2005 Cts-v
miles: 39k
color: silver
warranty: warranty still exist till july 2009

The guy I am getting it from is a retired person and says he could not drive the car because he cannot shift gears..

mods:
1) he has K&n intake (worth it?)
2) he has magnaflow exhaust . how good is this?
3) a bit confused but he says he has this thing called "predetor diablo" and its tuned on it.
* how exactly does this work, he couldnt explain it to me, he had mention that it has a little more hp and tq but if you take it back to dealer you just plug it in and set it back to factory setting.
4) He says the Nav system is not updated with the new mapping . how can i update the nav cd or is it even not worth it?
5) i find it wierd that he had 265 kumhos in the front and 255 in the rear, why wider tires in front? he didnt have explaination?
6) before getting the car, should i check something else out, it has clean car fax..but is ther any other major problems i should look at?

thanks for your help guys

We're in the market for a CTS-V also but the 06+ had some changes including the better LS2 engine and mods to the T-56

Can I ask why not go for an 06 vs the 05 with the LS6?

What makes the ls2 better?

1. The K&n will add a little hp stock but the more power you make the more the K&n will help.

2. The exhaust on these cars add little power but the tone is so much better than the stock system.

3. The predator is a way to tune the car. It will add some timing and probably lean the car out a little to add additional horsepower. I'm not sure if predator has a tune for the cts-v so it might have a custom tune already loaded in the car.

4. The updated nav is probably the new CD. When new roads are added they don't show up on old disc's, newer disc means current roads.

5. ??? I have no idea unless the tire shop made a booboo.

6. Listen for rear end whine, bad motor mounts, and pealing radio buttons. All are covered by warranty so it shouldn't really be much of a problem if they come about.

Sounds little odd that the guy would have a modded V and have to sell it because he can't shift gears but who knows, and TAINTED.....exactly how can you say the ls2 is better? numbers prove there is basically no difference in power and speed! if you think spending an extra 6k for an ls2 is worht it then by all means thats all your paying for other then steering wheel radio controls. everything else was the same except the rear is a tad stronger. everythign jerrad said is right. only this is the mods that are done will void quite a few things on the warranty.

You'll learn not to touch that subject around here, "LS-6 Vs LS-2"
Been debated over & over & over again & there is no reason one is better than the other, is the only thing that ever comes out of that one

You're right. The only certainties in the world are death, taxes, and no winners in the ls2 vs ls6 debate.

jerrad answered the questions no reason to make it into a ls6 vs ls2 thread.

To add to
#4 if not already installed you also need to a firmware update for the nav. unit also if you want to use a updated map disc.

#5 It sounds like the previous owner just bought what ever tires were available cheap at the time and had them installed. Also the wider tires might have been out back at one point in time.

#6 If the vol. and tune has pealing radio buttons, just finish pealing the crap paint off and rattel can them with some flat black. Thats what I did and they look great. (BTW the buttons just pull off)

and so it is knowen, the LS6 is best and blk on blk is the fastest color, LOL .

I say LS2 is better because theres no replacement for displacement. I'm sure once you start adding FI into the equation it would take less boost to make the same power on an ls2 vs ls6...?

Maybe im wrong but it makes perfect sense in my head. Remember im still new on the cts-v stuff...

Now how do i know that the rear has been changed to 06-07?

Any claims done previously i should be concerned about?

Warranty still exist till 2009 of July, once i get it should i get the car checked on recall or done anything else under manufacture warranty?.

Thanks

LS6 vs. LS2 comment.....

LS6 is more special b/c it is an actual engine from the past and has always meant that the vehicle was performance oriented.

The only real difference is the rear end right??? Oh and Steering Wheel Controls..
