Default metal shavings on dipstick when checking oil?

after reading one of the post on here i started paying closer attention to the end of the dipstick when checking the oil. so, i went out to my car in the morning and checked the oil...everything looked good. started the car and went driving for awhile. came back and let it cool down for about 30 min. checked oil again...everything still looked good. wiped it off and checked again...this time there was a few tiny shavings on the dipstick. did it again and same thing.

i have 45k miles on it so i would think there shouldnt be and shavings in the oil.
is this normal?

Id start saving up for a new block. Hopefully your car still has a warranty, then ya really got nothing to worry about, cept the fact that eventually your engine will seize up. and will be in the shop for quite sometime.

but i may be wrong. all the times ive seen metal shavings on the dipstick, it looked like someone threw glitter on it. but if its just as you say " a few" .. well then cross your fingers that it doesnt progressivly get worse.

Ever looked at your drain plug?? The magnet at the end?? that's what it's there for...don't worry about it, it's metal on metal your gonna get some shavings, if your really worried about it get one of those magnets for your oil filter and go change your oil.

Ah, I finally found an advantage to not having a dipstick---don't ask, as it was never my request not to have one, damn glad the low oil sensor works!!

Like Nikon said.....There is a reason why the drain plugs are magnetic..

I myself am dealing with this issue on my Z06. I found a CHUNK though....

I sent the oil off for testing...I wouldn't worry about it unless you find a chunk, you can do an analysis for like $30.

Good Luck

Ouch....maybe a disadvantage to a hand built motor

Good luck with it.

It's normal, again the oil is the only barrier from metal/metal....do you rev your car as soon as you start it? or beat the **** out of it when the motors cold? Things like that will speed up wear/tear on ANY motor.

I finally see the problem....you've got a truck motor in there...the V is trying to kill it
