new ctsv 6 piston brembo brakes
i was wondering if anyone has upgraded to the new 6piston caliper.
i ran across a oem upgrade directly from gm and its cost nearly 1500 for just calipers and rotors.

yeah they cost a good amount of cash! and they are very similar to the zr1 vette brake set up

No they are not similar to the zr1 brakes. If I recall correctly the zr1's have carbon ceramic rotors..... much different than carbon ceramic brake pads. I know for a ferrari the rotors for the front are like that and go for over $1000 each. If you can get the larger rotors and 6 piston calipers for $1500 that is a hell of a deal and I would jump on that. Make sure that they'll fit inside your wheels first though. I put on 15" 6 piston brakes on my silverado ss and they are the **** even if nothing more than for show but I guarantee you they'll stop better than our factory 4 piston calipers.

The new ZR1 and CTS-V 6 piston calipers are all the same caliper, including the 6 pistons you'll find on the new lambos and ferraris...just the back half of the caliper is designed differently for different cars. The CTS-V calipers are only $325 each off of gm parts direct and can be used with the C6 Z06 rotors

last time i looked, that was one of the few impressive items on the Gen I compared to the slew of flaws and poor parts.

By the way, a guy by the name of Pietro Raimondi (I think) on the other V forum sells big brake kits for our cars, those kits are based on the SCCA Speed World Challenge CTS-Vs. They are very spendy, but look very sweet.

Speaking of breaks how do the Vs breaks compare to the LS2 GTOs?
I never looked into breaking performance when cross shopping for some reason.

The LS2 GTO's breaks are better than the LS1 GTO but they still pail in comparison to the V's. No offense. The V has 4 piston brembo calipers with 14" rotors front and rear. You just wont get the same performance out of a floating 1 or 2 piston caliper with smaller rotors.

GTO: fast at the strip "get up and go" power, just bringing back to glory days of American muscle.
CTSV: out preform the German sport sedan in a straight line and around the corners. which is does very well.
in order for the V to go around corners with the Germans, it needed breaks like the Germans Sport Sedans. this can also be seen with the choice of rear suspension in the to 2 cars. the V has full independent rear suspension and adjustable stability control. while the GTO has a trailing arm set up. I got into a 30 minute conversion with my dad (who 3 days after i got my V, he got a 06 GTO). and he says he wants to swap the rear set up out and make it better, but doesn't want to spend the money to do so.

well...when you think about what each car was "designed" to do...

I think its just a splendid Grand Tourer, while the V is slightly more aggressive at the whole handling thing.

Truth is the GTO tried to be the best of all worlds but came short, its not too great at the strip with the IRS and the ability to only fit 245s, but that allows it to be OK at turns.

my dad did say that the Goat is a smooth comfy ride while he is drive around town, and it can handle some corners. but when he trys to be a little bit more aggressive around a turn, he says he can fell the car "struggling" to make. but he says that is nothing that cant be fixed with some $$, time, and elbow grease.
