I just picked up an 05 for what would be fair for a salvage title'd car! Needs some paint correction, a motor mount, and the buttons on the NAV touched up, but otherwise I am VERY excited to own it! already put 500 miles on her-and will be driving it another 350 this weekend. It has 140k now, and I have every confidence it will make it to 200k if I still own it by then. Southern car that has never seen salt, and 180 compression acroess the board.

Here we go!
So what did you get it for and what state are you in...I'm here I sunny sfla and I am having a hell of a time finding one ...at least for a reasonable price

So what's the consensus on getting an 06 vs the 04? 06 ls2 vs 04 ls6, not too sure there's a really clear difference there. But reliability wise on higher mileage 06 vs 04 any input. The 06 didn't have the rear diff issue did it?

All the V's have hop. The 06 has a better version diff, but odds are that buying an 04 used... it may have an upgraded diff as well. You'd have to actually check the diff on the 04 though.

My 06 has 136,000+ at the moment and at around 130k, I did a compression test, and dyno tune. Compression test was 190psi on all 8 if I remember correctly, with no differences in any cyl, and I dyno'd 372rwhp at TuneTime in NJ.

When looking at higher mile cts v's is there anything in particular to check out? I know the LS2 motor pretty well, and besides the basics are there any inherent problems to check? I'll listen for diff wine, clunk, etc.

Guys I drove an 06 today with 83k miles. Everything was fine but it had an odd vibration at about 1500 rpm. At a stoplight in neutral I reved it to 1500 and it was there again but only around that rpm. Would that be a harmonic balancer or more a flywheel? I left the car in 6th and bogged it and had no clutch slip.... I'm trying to figure out what it is before I put in an offer

I would be looking close at that balancer.

I would be looking close at that balancer. If I had to guess.

Could be either. Flywheel causes vibration around that RPM, esp on higher mileage. At least you can visually check the balancer to see if it looks off.

Clutch seems fine though so flywheel balance??? Idk. I'm leaning more towards harmonic balancer. I'm an ME and do vibration analysis so ill figure it out. I bought the car anyways nothing else was off. It's an 06 ls2 with 83k miles for $16k. I felt it was a fair price. Let the mods begin!!

Default Can't wait to be back!

Funny- When I was looking for information on my 35th Anniversary Camaro SS, I stumbled onto LS1tech. When I was looking for personal accounts from people about their V's, I stumbled on this site yet again.

The last time I was on this forum was the last time I owned my Camaro and that was over 4 years ago. This tells me that people posting on this site share a lot of valuable information. I learned some good stuff about maintaining V's, especially those that are high-milage, just by reading this thread. For those of you who still stumble onto this thread every once in a while, thank you for feedback.

Around the time I had the Camaro, I was also fortunate enough to drive a burgundy/red '04 V. The fun I had driving an M6 versus an A4 was no contest, even though I had a deep love for the Camaro, being my first car. This is where the loVe began.

For a long time, I told myself that when I had the opportunity I would by a V. I was also very much in love with the design of the 04 M3. Personally, I think M3s are much more attractive cars, inside and out. But, the biggest thing that deters me from buying an M3 is the way it sounds. I know everyone knows what I am talking about! The sound of a V8 is unrivaled, especially when you compare it to the sound of an M3. I grew up around that deep muscle sound, and I have that deep muscle sound on my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L (no muffler ) so I find it very hard to imagine ever owning a car where I can't just start her up just to listen to her purr.

Long story aside, I am now in the market for a 04-05 V (black/black) and this thread gave me the confidence I needed to purchase a V that has climbed in mileage. I have been looking cross country for the best deals and I think I may have found one. I may just fly out there and drive her home . I am looking forward to getting back in the game and sharing stories once again.

Mike

Just shy of 140k, and still love it, even with this stubborn fuel pump issue.
I have a '14 Chrysler 200 I'm renting in the meantime... and oh man, this thing is trash in comparison. Maybe its because its so low optioned, maybe because it feels even cheaper somehow, maybe because it has no leather or sunroof, or power seats, and maybe its because it has that weak *** 4 cyl...

But turning on that V and hearing that grumble of headers with open cutouts... Ugh... sex.

Fellas, I found an '04 V, black/black with 86K on the clock. Asking price is $17K. I am going to talk them down a bit but I'm so thrilled to have found one in this condition that I am tempted to just pull the trigger. I think they are asking a little too much for it, but then again it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.
