If you did break an axle, you'll get a prize for being the first to ever break a Gforce 300m axle

Thanks

soo, its looks like i am the first person to have the axles go bad.
Look on the bright side, at least you get a prize and some new axles.

The axles dont go into the diff, the axle stubs do. The axles are what go into the cv joint/stub assembly.
I'll give you a call, sounds like it might be a problem with the stubs or installation maybe.

Man this sucks.. normally I would cross my fingers and hope that it was an installation problem, but seeing that its SNL who did the installation (they will be doing my setup) I don't want it to be that issue..

I broke a CV on my V once. The metal part that is splined and slides on the axle shattered. The inner stub was fine and the axle was fine but since that metal part was broke, it let the axle spin inside it. It popped too . It would catch and drive foward about a foot and then pop and just spin. I installed a used axle off ebay and its been fine ever since.

Its more than likely a problem where the CV and stub meet. Breaking a 300m axle requires a lot of work.

I'll be testing the Gforce axles tonight at the drag strip. Hopefully my CVs can take it. It seems like a lot of guys are breaking them.

now, i really wonder what happened to her.

and the shop said they would take apart the rear to see if anything is wrong or not. but they would charge me 400 bucks to do that. if anything, i will try and get to car from Fremont to Tracy (where my sister lives) and then see what her mechanic says. and i can will more then likely get it way cheaper then 400. since he knows her and my brother in law (and their 68 Firebird and Chevelle) very well.

I've broke two CVs already. I bought a set of axles with CVs as spares that I will carry to the track with me in case I break. This way I dont have to tow the car home. Its something all high hp CTS-Vs should do for track day.

How much do CVs run?

update:

there is nothing wrong now. car is driving like she was.

my dad thought that i may have locked something up, and when i cycled the gears it "fixed" itself. i drove the car from Fremont to Tracy, taking a combo of freeway a surface streets, and it ran great. got into in once to get on the freeway.

and now a lesson i am taking away from this...always drive with traction control off.

Amen to that.
You can do much more with it off.

and now the car is broke again.

but this time, there is no grinding noise or anything like before.

i put the car in gear and and the engine will rev up, but the car will not move. the only thing it does is creep forward.

Like above i have my money on a cv joint. before you may have fractured it, or did something where it caused problems, then driving it more took it out the rest of the way

Go jack up one rear corner of the car, take the parking brake off, and leave it in gear, and see if you can spin the tire with it in the air. if not, put that side down, and try the other, my bet is one side will spin. This works well when you break the axle in your work parking lot... and want to order a part that day... ask me how i know?

That suck man. On a good note, you have a 2007, even if you are over 50k miles you still have 100k powertrain. Go to the dealer and have them look at it.

i wouldn't if it is the axles, they might replace your geforce assembly with stockers...

you can find used axles for under $200, and steal the cv's

Or i believe geforce sells just their strong inner cv's separately, so you could replace with those to have a much stronger solution. (i am guessing this would be at least $600 for the inners though) but would be a much stronger, and more reliable solution
