Those theoretical velocities are close, but not exact.

I have seen 163 mph (based on the speedo, not sure if that speed was accurate or not) in 5th gear and then it redlined.

I would like to believe that my car, as it sits, is capable of hitting 168-170 mph in 6th gear.

I agree. You can come very close to top end in 5th ( I hit 165). 6th is for gas mileage. Plus I was reading the values off the graph. I may not have got them exact.

163 on the speedo could be off by a decent amount. you could use the gps function of the headunit to see what the actual mph is.

and that 168 while it seems close is a big number to hit in our 6th gear. not sure how much power you make but it would have to be a decent bit more then ours, or at least have th wind and a slight down hill helping you out. maybe more important then if you will hit that speed but how much road would it take you to get there.

At the Texas mile, I would get to 162-3 in 5th gear. Shift into 6th and she would drop back to 158-7. When I crossed the line speedo was at 171. Clock said 169.7

I don't think we produce enough power to redline 6th, so who knows what the actual top speed could be (say with 800 hp). Those theoreticals are neat, but friction and aerodynamics play too much a role at those speeds. Unless it's under controlled conditions (even then), trying to do 160+ on the street is just plain stupid.

Agreed. Thats a lot of air we have to push at those speeds. You need exponential power increases to get even 10 more mph top end. I read that the Bugatti Veyron uses more HP to get from 200 to 267 than it does to get from 0-200.

5th=163
6th=177

I shift out of 5th at 163 and the computer cuts the engine at 177. I make about 500rwhp. I have a video on youtube. Just search CTS-V 70-177

Great photo. Incredible what all that air does. Anything that y'all are going to do to avoid that in the future? How does she feel around 170? Is she squirmy at all? Looks like you could lower it an inch or so and maybe block off some of the underside via aluminum sheet. Not even sure what you can do about the sunroof.

Can anyone calculate the gears using a 3.15 rear or 3.23. I'll be shooting for 180 +.

Am I missing something? I'm quite sure my car won't do 99 in 3rd, even at redline.

Did they change gear ratios in 07?

all stock gears are 3.73...but with some tunes redline is raised, some have built tranny, and some may have swapped gears.

the fast i have had mine is each gear:
1st: 43
2nd: 66
3rd: 93
4th: 133
5th: 142
6th: not tired

i tend to shift about 100 to 200 rpm below redline.
