Default clutch install question

***New Question***- I'm trying to get the bell housing off the motor and I have all 8 bolts out but can't break the passenger side free. I've even removed the starter and tried wedging a flathead screwdriver between the two but it won't give. I think its being held up by the "dowel pin?" on the passenger side. Any suggestions

Is there any reason why you can just unbolt the bell housing off the motor and remove the bell housing and transmission as one unit...then reinstall seperately?

I'm doing header at the same time right now and with the stockers out of the way it looks like most of the bolts are visible? Suggestions?

I'm not sure you can. The input shaft has to come out of the disk and I dont think you can slide the trans back far enough with the bell housing attached.

You can try, but Im pretty sure the top of the bell housing will hit the firewall

hmm. ok. I thought I recently saw a pic where someone had done it, but I'm not sure who posted or which forum it was on. No biggie, I was just trying to save a little time when I start on it again Sat morning.

You'll only save about 10 min. The bolts on the trans are easy to get to anyway.

Stageup is right. It won't save you much time anyhow.

Ok it was just a thought, I didn't know how tough getting to the upper bolts were going to be..so I thought if I only had to do it once on the bell housing it may make it easier/quicker. Hopefully I'll be able to start on this again tonight or tomorrow morning and have it all (clutch and headers) buttoned up Sat afternoon.

Upper bolts are easy if you just pull off the intake on top.

Remove both seperate, install seperate. Top bolts are easy, no need remove intake. Did mine when I did headers also. Bellhouseing is a bitch so bring friends to help. Carefull not to pinch harness when installing bellhousing again.

Don't even try it. The bell housing is hard enough to get removed around that big dual mass turd when the transmission is off, let alone trying to fight it off there with the trans still connected. Do it the right way and save yourself the headache.

The headers being on or off isn't going to give you more/less room either. They are out of the way already. You can't see em, but they are on in this pic.

when i first put in the spec clutch the bell housing and trans wouldnt separate for over an hour so the entire thing came out as one unit. then another 20mins with the whole thing on the floor to get it apart.

when i was putting in the exedy the two parts came apart easy. so it is doable to remove it as one piece, i think it would be hell getting it back in as one piece.

i used a rubber mallet and a pry bar to pry a bit then hit the trans near where the dowel pin sits. took a while to break it free.
