Default decided to be different.... (*new wheels inside*)

A lot of guys were powdercoating the wheels gloss black or flat black, but I decided to be unique. I went with a gunmetal color, but under direct sunlight it almost looks like it has a little bit of bronze in it, which I kinda like. Also got rid of the 45 series BFGs and went with 245/40 Nitto NT-05s.

Here are some pics.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

You can really see the bronze in the wheel in this pic....

Very nice, I've been seeing more people go with gunmetal stockers and I'm really considering painting mine...

Question:
How did you go about painting your grill and surrounding chrome trim because I've been wanting to do that for awhile?

yep, H&Rs, but the front was SLAMMED so we brought it up level with the rear by putting a spacer where the front shock mounts to the a-arm.

I pulled them off, along with the surrounding trim, and had a local shop paint everything for me. cost me $100 but it made the biggest difference in the world! Taking it off wasnt that bad at all, got the upper and lower grille off without removing the bumper and all, just pop off all those push pins and tug!

I like the wheels, but what's the purpose of going with the wrong sized tires? I've run 245/40s in R-compounds, and they just look short to me.

Good thing its not your car then.

He probably switched because he thinks (as I do) the 245/45s look like off road tires. I went to 245/40 so that my front tire wasn't jammed up in the fender well. 245/40 looks a lot better on a lowered car than the 245/45 IMO.

45 series was TOO big, especially on a lowered car. The tire was way up in the fender well. There were MUCH better tire selections once you get down to 245/40 as well. I really wanted to try the NT-05s. I think the 245/40's look much better now. Also, turn in feels a bit more crisp, not sure if thats due to the smaller sidewall with having less flex, or just the difference in the tires themselves.

Looks good, but you gotta do something about the center caps IMO. I run a 245/45 on the front of mine and mine sit just the way yours do so something doesnt sound right if your front end was tucked. Ive never heard of anyone having to run spacers on the front shocks so maybe its time to look into replacing them.

My car is lowered as well and I'm about to buy some new tires. I've been stuck between sticking with my 275/40, 245/45 combo or dropping the diameter a tad and running 275/35, 245/40 instead.

My car sits right on the 275's in the rear and tucks the front 245/45's just slightly but IMO, I like the way the wheel well looks filled up right now. Makes the car look lower to me having less tire to fender gap. But, I'm not sure what the 35/40 combo would look like cause I haven't tried it. I might like it better...

I had the shop check the front struts twice and they were fine, so I dont know what it was. It was BARELY tucked to the point where you couldnt see the very top of the tread (you can kinda see it in the first pic). It wasnt the tucking that bothered me, but the rubbing of the front tires to the fender on rough auto-x courses when I threw it into turns. It was probably the course more than the car because at every other course I was fine.

I have the center caps, and I'll be getting them painted to match soon (gotta find a color that will be a match since they cant be powdercoated).
