Default LS6 Shorty Header? LT Install?

I just bought one of these bad boys as a daily driver and I'm looking forward to working on it. Already got a FAST 92MM going on it haha. Going to do headers next.

How is the install for full length headers? Is it like the GTO or no? I'm not really interested in playing with powersteering lines or whatever to get the damn headers in haha. If its a simple bolt on I'm doing long tubes. If not, I'd like to do shorties if they are available.

So two questions:

How is the install for a long tube header?

Do they make a shorty header for the 2005 CTS-V?

Long tubes are not too bad to install. You'll just need some extra heat wrap for some wires that end up too close to them. You can fish the headers in without too much difficulty. You have your own shop so it should be a breeze.

Headers are easy, the only pain in the *** is undoing the steering arm to finish the install on the drivers side, it can be a pain to hook back up but otherwise its easy as hell.

Dont bother with shorties no one makes them. And why a FAST 92 without a cam?

I was actually gonna contact you about retuning my car in the spring when i bump it to 150 shot.

Haha reason why I was just thinking shorties was because there isn't much if any power difference between the mods I plan to do, why struggle with power steering if I don't have to. I've done enough gtos to know I don't want to do it on this if I don't have to. Headers and a small cam. I have the FAST 92 because a maggie gto we did offered it to me at the right price. Why waste it? Haha

Sell me the FAST lol. Then you can install it and tune it for me. Headers are easy with the tools you have and a lift i wouldnt expect it to be more then 3 hrs start to finish.

I didn't think the steering was hard at all, but a few of the header bolts are a pain in the *** to get to.

Well the modifications are set for this weekend LOL....

Ported 90MM LS2/3 throttle body, Ported FAST 92 Intake Manifold, Custom Cam...

And then headers soon enough.

Hoping to see 380+ rwhp without the headers. Should be mighty stealthy.

Actually the intake manifold will go on tonight as long as the fuel rails clear. I don't think I have any LS2 fuel rails at the shop... so I'm not sure if it'll fit or not...

It put down 335 rwhp with just a tune... is that on par with other bone stock (with tune) CTS-Vs?

I made 343 with just a tune and CAI at Race proven motorsports. All that air with a FAST and cam and no way to get rid of it through stock manifolds.

Tonight it did 348 rwhp with the FAST 92mm. Still the stock exhaust and intake.

Blue is baseline, green is tune, and red is FAST 92 + retune.

Well, I said I'd be different, but then I looked and saw how tight everything was and was like... screw it, I'll be the same. So I did headers first.

Car made 372 rwhp and 361 rwtq. I'm not necessarily thrilled with the numbers, but I guess they work well. The car is still unbelievably quiet. I am using the stock cat-back. I have a feeling that might be choking it slightly.

So my progression is as follows...

Stock - 324 rwhp / 323 rwtq
Tune - 335 rwhp / 334 rwtq
Fast 92 / 90 - 348 rwhp / 340 rwtq
Headers - 372 rwhp / 361 rwtq (it did dyno 375 rwhp without an air filter though LOL)

Car does have a slipping clutch too :/

Not bad, with a mild cam youll eaily see 415+. I dont really see any signs of a slipping clutch on that dyno graph.

If you saw the gear/rpm ratio you would see the slip pretty easily.

Going to put in our NSSP. It is a 230/232 .614/.603 114. It will be getting a new timing chain, oil pump, and if I can find it a UDP.

Dammit this is a daily driver and will have as much done to it as my vette lol.

Serik, it sounds like the stock cat-back is a restrictive SOB. I think I'll put cutouts after the headers so I can have the best of both worlds... that should be pretty nifty. I have another idea to do too with the Z06 actuator and bypassing the mufflers... although I guess I could do the same with the electric cutouts. Thanks for the insight on how restrictive the stock cat-back is.

So cut outs, cam and that should make a great daily driver LOL.

Itsslow yes I have a ls6 but before I joined the forum I didn't know that the ls6 manifold flowed better so I got ls2 manifold and ls2 tb. Although I still have a small air leak next to injectors got to get a ls2 fuel rail maybe I can pick up 2-4 whp once I get the leak fixed. Yes stock cat back is killer on this car I'm running magnaflow exhausts come spring time I will put on headers and see where that gets me.
