Default Starting to think about a C5 . . .

Anyone on here ever driven one? Whats the experience like on a 02+ Z06, or mildly modded 2000+C5?

I love the CTS-V, but every time I drive the stang and go back to the CTS-V I hate not being able to lay into it in 1st/2nd. Debating whether I should keep it and beef up the rear, or just get into a C5 and start playing. Different animals I know . . . but thoughts on people who have driven both would be great.

Comfort is a big one for me, as it would be a DD. I dumped the mustang as the DD because Saleen can't build a good seat to save their life.

I have driven an 04 zo6 with a p1 procharger it made 510 to the tires.
first gear is useless and second gear is amazing of you can get it to hook.
going from the vette to the v.. the vette is fast and the gear box is nice but the ride is way stiff compaired to my v.
friday i drove the zo6 my v and a 07 c6vette and the 07 vette's ride was a ton better than the 04's

i test drove an 02 auto c5 just because id never driven a vette and it was next tot he house. hadnled awesome, pulled great up top. and thats a bone stock auto car. id love a c5z but i dont fit well enough in them to spend that kinda coin.

they each have pros and cons, and i like the V because of accessibility, i loaded 5 people in it yesterday and drove to an Orioles game, cant beat that.

I went from a 01 M6 C5 to my 06V because I needed room for a car seat for new grandson. Must admit I liked the C5 better. It was faster and I got over 30MPG on the highway. Also I make occasional 500 mile trips and the seats in the Vette were more comfortable for a long ride.

Only reason I'd do a C5 is if it was modded to my tastes. I actually like the body style a bit more than the Z06, but like the options of the Z06 a lot more.

I had an '01 z06 and loved it. It had heads and cam with all supporting mods...and I broke several output shafts. You still need to beef up the rears in those too! Figured you might want to keep that in mind too!

Yeah, but probably not to do a few burnouts with the stock power output .

The only way to have the best of both worlds is to have both.

Ah if only . Perhaps if my student loans were all paid off or I made a bit more money.

Of course if either were true I'd probably be looking at a C6 Z06 or 2009+ CTS-V.

Thats actually the exact opposite thing he wants to do. If you're going to mod the car, don't spend the extra money on a ZO6, get an FRC. I went from a 99 FRC to my V (had a kid). Loved that car, had LG Longtubes with B&B PRT's and a Blackwing intake with a 100 shot from a nitrous plate kit. Car moved and still got 23/32 mpg. You can pick up a nice FRC for about 15-16k now.
This was my Torch Red FRC

Guess I should become more clear on what the Z06 came with that the standard C5 didn't, other than a different motor. I'm guessing suspension and brakes at least. Were the 6-speeds different between the models?

The FRC's have came with Z51 suspension option. only difference is the sway bars, not that big of a deal. Brakes are identical other than the ZO6 calipers are painted red. The trans in the FRC is the mn6 and the ZO6 has the m12. Thats why you get better mileage. The only difference in the motor is the cam and heads (which you can pick up for about 500 bucks). So if you were looking at a cam already its pointless. Only suggestion I'd make is to get an LS6 intake manifold or better. You're saving about 4-5 grand over the ZO6 plus insurance.

Yea thats the deal to do if you can find one and want to mod. I just like the looks of the Z better and couldnt bring myself to put the vents on a FRC, just my personal preference.

Well if thats the case I'll go with a regular one. I like the hatch better . The FRC gets better mileage due to its tranny gearing?

Yes, it has the mn6 instead of m12. So at 80 in 6th you're at 1850rpms instead of 2200. The FRC is the same body style as the Z, that is what the Z was based off. They only made the FRC's in 99 & 00, the ZO6's started in 01. A lot of guys did the vents in FRC's, I don't like it unless they did the functional ones, and yes some guys just did the stick on's.

Ah, so what are the differences between the regular C5 and Z06? I like the regular C5 body style better. Were those engines just a difference of the heads and can too? Guess I should do more research lol.

Yes those were the same motors. There are 3 different body style's with the LS1; coupe, vert, and FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe, same as ZO6). Then the ZO6 was also the fixed roof coupe but with the LS6/m12, thicker sway bars, better wheels, and vents for the rear brakes. Whats nice about the FRC is that it's the lightest of the LS1 model, it always had the Z51 suspension package, and had the 3.42 gearing (an option on the coupe and vert). A lot of people also refer to the FRC as Factory Race Car. The body was a lot stiffer in the FRC for obvious reasons, like the roof wasn't cut in 2. And a lot, like most, of the coupe's get the creaky roof from the targa.

I would go c6 over c5... if you could afford it.
