Default what to do about a heat shield for trans?

My heat shield is all but dissolved and busted to bits, and I can't seem to find one to purchase, so I was thinking about getting peel n seal from lowes and putting a layer or two through my transmission hump area to help keep heat out of the car. Do you guys think it would work?

Mine did the same thing. It got wrecked when I tried taking the shortcut of not dropping my catback to lower the transmission enough to have working room when installing my shifter. It's a wrinkled, torn mess under there, and I still ended up dropping the front of my exhaust. I would like to replace it if I ever drop the tranny for anything. I suppose anything that can stand the heat and has a strong adhesive to handle the abuse from the road would work though.

Just remember you need a good foundation for that.

Peel all the old junk off, scrub it up, degrease it, and make sure it's all clean so that adhesive has something to adhere to properly, instead of junk and dirt and debris.

Just make sure whatever you put under there, get the highest heat rating you can. Over engineer, instead of replacing it again sooner than later.

From experience and a general consensus among the car audio forums, peel and seal doesn't hang well upside down, especially when exposed to heat. A more substantial, purpose-designed material may be a better solution.

I've seen a couple of guys that part out CTS-Vs and sell misc parts on ebay. Here's one I saw earlier today:

From the bottom of his auctions:

I've actually had good luck deadening sound with PNS, I was just curious how it works for deadening purposes.

Thanks!

I've had good luck deadening sound with it too. If you're talking about putting it under your carpet on the trans tunnel then that should be fine, but on the underside of the car I can see it falling off pretty quickly.

Mine was so bad I couldn't even reinstall it. I've been running without one for a while now. I cant really tell much difference.

raven that's actually sort of a relief. So there's seriously no excessive heat inside the car? Maybe I could just get spray adhesive or contact cement and adhere the shrapnel back to the top of the car.

I haven't seen the whole thing out of the car, but it appears to be some sort of fiberboard covered with heat reflective foil, held in with clips. You might be able to peel off the old foil and just recover the board.

Peel and seal is awesome but don't put it near high heat. I use it on the interior of some of the cars I have built. I have put it on the inside of the roof and had no issues. I would look for a used heat shield

I would use something like this:
Amazon Amazon

There's a larger version of that sheet too, but I didn't search too hard for it.

Truck bed liner? That probably won't be resistant to heat at all.

I would just get another one. It's probably even the same on the CTS.
