Default High mileage CTS-V Daily Reliablity?

Im in the market for a CTS-V, and theirs one at the dealership around the corner from my house, its an 05, has the LS6, appears to be bone stock, but it has 96k miles on it. Asking 16.9 for it.
What do i need to look out for in these cars, id still have to finance about 8 grand so im a little skeptical of making payments on a 100k mile car....
What do you think?

If it hasn't been beaten on they will drive a long time, I mean the LS series motor has been around for sometime now.

The 05's typically had a bad diff that whines if it was not replaced under warranty. If your gonna keep it stock I'm sure it will drive a lot longer. I have no idea what it's worth though, others will chime in there I'm sure.

Mine has much more and whines a bit but the motor is strong. Depends on how it feels in my opinion. 16.9 is high.

I agree, that price is high. I'd say $14-15k is where you want to be. I don't see why a well-treated 100k V wouldn't have another 50-100k in her.

I was going to say, what else could you get at that price that would be as fun... But really you could get a lower mile LS2 GTO in that same ballpark. They are less well equipped, but I suspect similarly fun.

I agree with everyone else here that seems a little steep for 98k miles i got my 04 (pretty mint and had the diff replaced in late 06) 67k miles for 17.5 and I was in a rush to find a car. It all depends if you have time wait it out there will be better options out there.

An ls2 GTO you could prob have for 15ish or maybe less but honestly its a whole different style of car it really all depends on what you are looking for. I find them kind of bland with no style at all.

Got my 04 last year with 80K for $16K. It runs like a champ but I've driven others with less miles that feel like ****. I have 110K on it now and it feels the same and mayber stronger with my mods. It's a daily driver and love it!!! I smile Everytime I get into it.

But yeah that price is steep!!!! Look around more.

I bought my 04 in March with 89K for 15K. Runs great, recently had to change the water pump though. The gaskets started leaking. The main things to look for are differential noise, check for vibrations only in 6th gear, and motor and tranny mounts. The T56 can develop a vibration from lugging in 6th gear and the only way to get rid of it is to rebuild the transmission. I have 98k on the car now and i love it.

Bought my 05 CTS-V with 137k miles. Has 150k miles and a stealth cam now. Runs like a champ for sure. The only problems I had were alternator, and a wheel hub going bad. My rear was replaced under warranty before I got the car. Car runs fantastic, but compared to a lower miles one (that I just bought - 73k miles) the shifter is much sloppier and the suspension is clearly shot... but you'd never know about the suspension until you drove something with lower miles LOL.

Otherwise the car is in tact very well. At some point it had the clutch replaced, probably nearing the 100k mark. I'd bet clutch will be the first thing on your list.

I've had my 06 almost two years and put over 20K on it. Crowding 70K overall.

Had to replace a starter and throttle pedal assembly.

If you zing the motor consistantly, accessories will take a beating.

Bought my 2005 a few months ago with 94k on it and the engine is stock, but tons done to it otherwise and gave 16.5k. Exterior is flawless. Drives great.

I could not find one cheaper ANYWHERE.

What do you think?
if it's a stealth grey one at Scoggins they just traded a guy out of it for WAAAAY less than the price they're asking from you. Offer 'em 14k. They'll still be making money on it!!

I think you are better off looking a little longer and maybe finding what you want. Even if it cost slightly more, the less wear and tear the less you will pay later. I think once you start getting up around 100k or more, you can expect some things to happen. I dont think these motors have anythign major to watch out for but even if you spent the extra $50 a month on a payment, it would be better than spending a coupe hundred at a time to fix it... but then again, I have a V for sale... haha

I don't think mileage is too big of a deal. LS cars have a history of having a long life. I was in the same boat, but I found a low mileage one for dirt cheap....with a few minor issues. I think everyone else has covered the bases.

well buying a used car is a gamble anyways.....high miles low miles...its always hit or miss.....if its high miles and they just used it to roll outta town with the occasional romp....or low miles and jr had it at the track every weekend but used it to go back in forth to school.....who knows......take it to your local shop have them do a compression test on it and let them drive it... then u drive it.....if it all checks out then buy it if not keep lookin.....the dealer shouldn't have a problem with you checking out the car if they want to sell it....

I bought my '05 about a year and a half ago with 85,000 on it for 16.9 and all I've done is change the oil. My car just broke 100,000 miles and runs perfect. When I bought it I told myself as things break I'll replace it with aftermarket stuff and I've been fortunatley dissapointed since The clutch, rear, suspension and water pump (cam swap) all still work fine. Maybe one day I'll get the privlage of a blown clutch so I can finally go LS7 but until then she runs perfect.

I just picked up an 2005 a few months ago for 12.8k with a little over 100k miles. I have had to do a few things to it but I expected to with the price I got it for. I honestly think the dealership I bought it from thought it was a regular CTS.
