Default V1 FOB replacement

Is it possible to use the newer style Cadillac FOB and have it programmed to the same frequency as my V1 FOB (which are so cheap and ugly)? I only want to use it for locking/unlocking the car and the trunk pop. I was thinking something like this:

hahaha

op, a cadi tech chimed in on cf. and said it cant work based on the receiver in the V1. wont communicate with the new fobs.. you could try swaping guts.. it would deff need some modification to fit but if you good with a dremmel and glue gun it might work

biggest problem is that you need to rig up some spacers to actuate the points on the motherboard.. the current gen fob buttons prob wont line up

This is what i was thinking of, swapping guts. I bought the newer gen one so i will have to take a look at how i could rig it to work...

Any good leads on getting a #2 FOB programmed? And a second key. If I lock the keys in my car, it's gonna cost as much as a new key+fob programming to pay a locksmith.

I have a 2nd fob, need a key + programming.

You can program the FOB(assuming your not changing styles like I want to do) yourself. As far as where to buy replacements, for the FOB you can do ebay the key may need to be bought at a dealer..

I tried swapping the guts into another case and it doesn't work. Only in the original case. I put the new pad into the old case and that works fine. I haven't tried programming with the new case, but I don't understand why that would be necessary.

(Note: Yes I swapped the metal ring for the negative side of the battery into the new case and it contacts the circuit board)

I was under the impression that you can only program your key and you have to get the dealership to program the remote.

Right & that programming your own key required having at least two keys (which I do not have).

http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/keyfob.html So i guess only the Key can be programmed not the FOB.

Possibly try this http://hackaday.com/2010/07/13/key-fob-programming/

I don't understand why it wouldn't work... did you do anything to the circuit board that might damage it or the parts on it?

These methods don't work. You have to go into a dealership for the 04-07 CTS and CTS-V.

thats what I thought. In my wifes 07 Escalade you can program it through the DIC prompts.

I'm pretty creative and want a newer model "shell" so I will try to rig one up and let yall know.

Not at all. Put the parts back in the old shell and I still use it everyday.

I have a gen2 fob on its way to me. Will be disassembling it and see what can be done. I realize the buttons don't line up, that's challenge 1..
