Default 07 CTS-V vs 11 Camaro SS

Hi guys, I did a search for this but didn't find much. I have an 07 CTS-V, stock with muffler delete. A girl I work with has an 11 Camaro (manual, stock). She really thinks her car is the s*%t. She keeps messing with a couple of other guys we work with...... on their sport bikes! They obviously leave her in the dust and then her excuse is she doesn't want to speed too fast on the road.

My question is who wins, CTS-V or SS?? I know the SS has slightly more hp on paper but are the engines overrated, are ours underrated?

Does this come down to driver skill and who shifts better or do I lose to her?

They are about the same on paper 0-60. From a roll, the stock Camaro rear gears really hurt it and you'll probably walk away from it. My buddy has a 2010 one and it would only run 13.8-14.0 in the 1/4. After he installed headers and I tuned it, it was running 12.9-13.1's.

They are very evenly matched on paper, like Brian said. From a roll, I wouldn't say you will walk away, but you should win by 1 to 1.5 car lengths. The rear gears in the V are what will help.

Prior to modding the car, stock down to the paper air filter, I beat a Stock Gen 5 by 1.5 cars from a 60 roll. With my mods, I will get about 4 cars on a stock Gen 5 SS M6s, and 5+ cars on the A6s, in a 40 or 60 roll.

Thanks guys, she is alright but married, so I don't have any pictures, sorry.

When racing from a roll like 60 mph, what is the ideal rpm to have the car at?

Cole - what mods do you have? I have thought about headers, cam and tune but not sure what I want to do with it if anything. I store it in the winter so when I start driving it in the spring it seems fast enough, towards the middle of summer I start thinking it could have a little bit more. There aren't many fast cars around this area, some camaros, a couple of G8s, a douchebag in an S5, there really isn't a lot of racing which is good from a speeding ticket perspective but it doesn't give a lot of opportunity to show the G8s they aren't s*&t

Main Mods are:
Monster Level 2 with 28lbs Flywheel
Full Dyno Tune
Kooks 1 7/8" Hearder with HF Cat Mids (Jet Hot Coated)
Magnaflow Cat back (with X-Pipe)
Volant CAI (K&N FIPK before)

I have other minor ones, but nothing that really help the power other then what is listed.

I will say this...in a way, I regret every dime I have spent on this car for power mods. The car just cant use the power as well as other platforms. The amount of money I spent of my 07 + the cost of the car, I could be in a C6 Z06. And a bone stock Z06 will completely whoop my car. And for a few extra $$ (~$4000) from a stock one, I can have a built up one making high 500s to the wheels. Now, I love driving my car and it is an absolute blast. But there are just better platforms to dump money into IMO.

Just look at what Allen (itsslow98) has in his sig...and that cost way less then he had in his V...haha.

I'm stock except for cutouts.

I raced a 5th gen SS 6spd about 2 weeks ago. From a dig to about 80mph i pulled 2 cars on him, from 30 to 80 it was about the same but i started pulling quickly from 60mph and up. Pretty sad that a 4dr sedan can pull on this sad excuse for a muscle car 5th gen.

Cole - have you had it on a dyne with those mods?

I hear you on the platform. I love driving the car, good blend of style, comfort and speed. I think I got a good deal on the car but am still hesitant to put much money into it. Almost pulled the trigger on the maggie deal last fall but passed.

Dyno with stock clutch and K&N was 357.3 HP and 370.4 tq. The guys at Monster Clutch said the typical pick up to my set up is ~8 hp/tq at the wheels.

From 60 roll, you will pull about 1 car length. I ran a black 5th gen SS about 2 days ago, and thats what I got out of it. Didn't sound stock, but didn't sound worked either.

Probably just exhaust or I/E.

You definitely won't walk it, but the gearing makes a difference. Also, whether its an auto or manual makes even more of the difference.

Sweet spots in the V are 40mph in 2nd, 60mph in 3rd, about 80mph in 4th. The 60 roll is the best to do, with 4th gear being the money gear.

G8's arent ****? My ex has an 09 G8 GT with just a resonator and muffler delete as of now and its pretty quick for stock. Def a door to door race or might even pull a bit on a bone stock V. Those cars haul *** with just intake, full exhaust and a tune. Hell... Tune alone and they pick up quite a bit of power. They are detuned quite a bit from the factory.

I wasn't trying to imply that G8s weren't s*&t, just saying that the car scene around here isn't really happening. The only cars that I do see are the camaros and G8s. I am certain that none of them have any work done to them. Trying to compare stock to stock.

I travel quite a bit for work and in different parts of the country (San Diego, South East) it is quite a bit more common to see cars with mods and guys racing each other. A corvette ZR-1 is about as exotic as it gets here.

Oh i see. Well back to the original post, the camaro is not that fast stock. A stock V will beat a stock SS (if u know how to drive).

I realize I should probably already know the answer to this question, but I'm lazy and gonna ask anyway, what RPM are you turning at 60mph in 3rd gear?

If u can drive, youll win hands down. i ran my dads ss both of us stock and pulled him lk 4 cars. Ran again both of us tuned and same outcome. I even raped a new 5.0 that was tuned and had a exhaust. Guy felt stupid afterwards and tried saying it was stock even after his own buddy said wat it had.

If u run from between 40 to 60 leave in 2nd! U want ur car already rev pretty good cause thats where we make our power! just dont miss 3rd and dont try power shifting especially with stock shifter.

I can post the vid of me and the 5.0 if u care to see the outcome.
