Default 160 T-stat for a V1

Having a little trouble finding one. Does anyone know where I could pick one up?

I was thinking about getting one myself. Is it worth it if your not going to get a tune afterwards or just leave the stock one in? It's time i do a coolant flush and was just going to do it at the same time.

I had issues getting oil up over 180* when I had a 160* t-stat installed during daily driving. I switched to a 180* t-stat and oil gets up to 190* now on daily commuting.

The 160* stat is a worthy upgrade though right? I was about to put one on mine but if there is no noticeable difference, I'll just keep the 180*

In any sort of modified engine it is definitely worth it, a stock t-stat can make it very hard to keep temps down in modified engine applications, even cam only setups. Both 180 and 160 are worth it, it just depends on the persons desires. I run a 160 in my car with the fans set up to control the temp around 180* anyways. If I had a stocker I'd buy a 160, but if I had a 180 and no cooling issues I'd probably just keep it.

Stock t-stat is 186*. As mentioned I tried the 160* but could never get oil up high enough for daily driving so tried a 180* which keeps coolant and oil around 190*. With the 160* coolant and oil was around 172-178* for daily driving in Kansas City climate. One thing I noticed is that with a 180* the coolant and oil is at a higher but more consistent temp than it was with the 160*. When its hot out >95* or when doing track day 15-20min sessions the stock cooling system won't be able to hold it under 190 regardless of stat used as any will be wide open so in my view it comes back to what you want to see for a daily driver temp and highly dependent on your local climate and car's cooling capacity.

Are you running a oil cooler?
My oil temp is about 240* on the freeway.

No oil cooler, stock ls2 setup minor mods acted the same when it was stock. I run 5w30 quaker state because its 20 bucks for 5 quarts at walmart but temps were the same when I ran 5w30 mobil 1. The only time I have seen oil consistently north of 200-205 was a track day at MAM and water was up to 235 and oil did rise to 245 towards the end of the day. I dd this beast over 20k a year. We had some 100* days last summer and it would run around 200 both water and oil but nothing near 240. I have ran into this discussion a few times perhaps the ls2 has a better cooling system than the ls6 or the oil temp sensor is in a different place. I wouldn't say that I take it easy when I drive by any means.

I cannot run the 160° stat in the winter and yes my fan off/on temps were adjusted. It stays at 165°. In the summer is will run 175°-185° while cruising.

I take it as hard as a cg lock will allow in these (not made for track) seats. I average 6-7 mpg during a track day. I will be curious to see what mpg comes with doing headers and a tune, will find out in a few weeks.
