I would like to see a back to back comparison between the Z06 and the ZL1 at VIR on the same day. Chevrolet also ran the ZR1 at the same test day and it put down 2:45.6 compared to the ZL1's 2:52.4

The recent Nurburgring runs with factory drivers is a better indicator of overall track prowess: ZR1=7:19.63, Z06=7:22.68, ZL1=7:41.27. The Z06 was only 3 seconds off the ZR1's time on a 12.9 mile course!

These are some crazy fast times, I'm interested to see if the new GT500 can best the ZL1 in the track. We all know it will own it in the drag strip, but maybe not here...

Saw my first ZL1 at the track the other night. Teenage girl driving it. She said her daddy bought it for her. Not racing. Must be nice. My dad bought me a Cavalier...

Interestingly the CTS-V did a 7:58 with a very similar drivetrain, suspension, and curb weight to the ZL1. So GM did pretty well to find another 17 seconds vs the V.

I can't imagine it is down to Goodyear tires, but maybe Goodyear is finally back in the game like they were 10+ years ago when the F1 tires first came out.

Yeah I love it when parents make enough money to buy their kid(s) a nice car as long as the kid appreciates it. You sound bitter. Why you mad because she drivers a better car than you do...step your game up son!

You sound even more bitter, comparing this girl to yourself, saying, "My daddy bought me a Cavalier."

My friend is an engineer at gm and he said the big differnence between the V and the zl1 is the better tires and the mr3 shocks compared to the mr2 on the V and zr1.

Still, it does seem like a cool car. And the marketing/videos suggest you could beat on it all day long and it would just take it. I just wish they didn't have such a cramped interior and poor visibility. I also wish a Camaro never weighed 4,100 lbs, but I could get over that if it were comfortable inside.
They ran the lightening lap config used in the car and driver tests, which i think is harder then just going down the straight. The camaro is a pretty comfy vehicle to drive.

Will be interesting to see the times the GT500 puts down on a road course. As we all thought, it kills the ZL1 at the drag strip.

1/4 mile: 11.6 @ 125.7

Even if it does it will never be near as sexy. Ford hasn't had a good looking car since the 427 Cobra.

All this and 24 highway mpg avoiding the guzzler tax, car is insane mix of old and new school tricks. I wonder how 6th gear will hold up with the tall gearing causing very low 6th gear rpm <1500 at highway speeds and the known issues with tremec used this way.

I love how the article mentions that the transmission still can't "be rushed", lol. I think we are all winners with the performance car wars going on.

This is a matter of opinion, but I beg to differ... Besides the 69-73 Camaro's, the Mustang has looked hands down better than the Camaro through the years, especially the new Camaro...

I respect this car, but I would take a GT500 over a ZL1 any day of the week. The 5th gen Camaro is fugly & too bulky IMO... No disrespect to anybody that owns one, but they are just not my cup of tea.
