Default Attacking motor mounts tomorrow - Installing UMIs

Watched the YT video on R&R the mounts. Looks simple enough ...

Going back with UMI's poly mounts. Any "gotcha's" I should know about ahead of time?

Give yourself extra time. You never know. 5-6 hours should just about do it.

Not hard at all. I think the dipstick tube was probably the only real snag, but with two people (one feeding it from top, guy on bottom guiding it in) it's not bad at all.

I didn't pull my dipstick for stock, uuc, or umi mounts.

This is what I learned doing mine.

Think lollygagger is confusing headers with motormounts......

3 hours in ...

Old mounts are out, new UMIs are in place, but haven't buttoned them up yet.
Having a heckuva time getting the mounts "clocked" and the engine block side started.

The upper mount seems to be about 1/16" shifted forward. Did I miss a L/R side marking on the lower?

One thing painfully obvious and not well documented is that the cats and starter have to come off. Like I say, its obvious once you are there, but would have been nice to know going in.

Dipstick tube wasn't too bad ... but the forward wire loom ... maybe going to passenger side ABS, was a sneak attack.

The cradle on my car didn't drop any at all. I had to wedge and pry on it to gain the cleareance needed.

You guys are making this too hard. I've done them on stock manifolds/cats and headers. None of that has to come off.

The lowers should be the same. I bolted mine to the block first and then worried about assembling the rest. The lowers pretty much slid into place when I started lowering the motor back down.

Yeah that's what you have to remember. Once you start tightening the cradle back up most of it will line back up as well. I did have to leave the bottoms very loose on mine to get everything clocked correctly but then it all just fell into place.

I did mine without removing anything. I did have to unbolt the starter and move it out of the way but not remove it. Hardest part was getting stock mounts back in, I ended up bolting them to th te upper mount, putting that and the lower bracket up in there loose, then lining it up with the bottom bracket and bolting it all up..

It was not a picnic and it did go much faster the second time, like everything else ha ha..

Since then I was able to get my cat bolts loose on another project, so I will definitely be removing those, and the starter before round 3. This may take a moment to do, buy will save time and make it MUCH easier.

Oh, and gear wrenches ftmfw

Done ... 5.5 hours.

I'm pretty meticulous and wanted the lowers clocked so that there was no preload on the bushing.

So I snugged everything up, marked the lower, pulled the lower out, tightened the stuf and then reassembled.

I'm sure it could be done without cat and starter removal. But it's 6 bolts and 2 wire plugs. 5 minutes R&R ...

On a side note ... this working on cars is BS for an old, fat man. But it saved $400 in a shop doing it, so I think I'll treat myself to a new gun.

It's definitely comparable to doing a puzzle since there are many ways to do it.... I thought removing the stock clutch was worse... F'n bell housing

I must say the UMI mount are the ****.

Being able to seperate the mount, simple design, fit nicely and free up a little room are HUGE pluses.

Awesome job from the aftermarket.

After a couple short, 300 mile trips post UMI change out I gotta say why did I wait so long?

I guess over a period of time the slow degredation of the stock mounts wasn't noticeable. You just get used to it as it occurs.

But holy crap, what a difference in noise, beating and banging, shifting, roughness ... like a completely different car ... all from motor mounts.

There is a slight hum or buzz I feel more than hear. But it's only at idle. Anything off idle it smooths right out.

Again thumbs up to ryan and UMI for a quality product.

I took out the dipstick on passenger side because turning that motor mount bracket out of there is a like ****** Jenga puzzle
