Default Need help quieting down exhaust!

I just bought an 04 Cts-v that is bone stock except for a muffler and resonator delete. Imo it sound terrible, the drone at highway speed is bad and the popping when on decel is embarrassing. Will adding a resonator fix this? I want to be able to hear it, but not wake up the neighborhood when I go to work.

P.S. Just looking for a short term fix, and I can weld myself. Later plans will be full exhaust with headers, but I can't stand to drive it now!

Thanks
Chris

I would throw the stock resonator back on or put two glasspacks in somewhere.

Adding some sort of resonator(s) in there would help, but I think welding in some mufflers at the *** end of the car would be even more effective.

I've never used them before, so I don't know how effective they are, but maybe buy a couple of those baffled inserts that just slip into the pipe and stick those in at the tail pipes?

i thought the same until i heard my buddies gto with them. The sound difference was nominal and it still droned on the highway. it is a stock system with muffler delete, he thought the cones would help

if you still have the stock resonator id weld that back in... its really just an insulated x-pipe. if you dont have one ill be cutting mine out in a couple weeks and you can have it.

If you're looking for cheap mufflers that sound decent I'd grab some dynomax super turbos.

I am probably going to try to get a stock resonator and see how much that helps.

Does anyone know the part number for the magnaflow mufflers used in their catback system? I've seen it before but cant find it. I have deleted mufflers now but dont like the loudness after the catless headers.

The dimensions might work too, Im 3000miles from my car right now...

thanks

Do this to kill the drone: https://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-...ltz-tubes.html

Jones / Full Boar exhaust sells magnaflow clone muffelrs. They work and they're cheap. All the tuners round here run em.

This will make a big difference. I have a stock exhaust other than having the mufflers deleted and it sounds really good. Not loud at all and a good clean tuned sound. There is some popping on decel but its light and IMO sounds pretty good. I have some videos that I'll share if you want to hear it.

ETA

Hope that helps you make your decision.

I have my stock catback sitting in my back yard... If you want to pay to ship it, its yours. The passenger side flange might be messed up... I snapped a rusted bolt trying to get the damn thing disconnected from the stock manifold. Almost killed my damn self. I would have to check it if you want it.

This is basically what I did:

1. I replaced the stock Cats with SLP "HiFlow" cats.
2. I built an x-pipe to replace the stock resonator, which had been deleted.

I seriously suggest doing this over a stock resonator.

My X-pipe really helped overall.

3. I went to Summit and ordered some of their bullet mufflers to replace the factory stockers, which had been deleted as well.

I get ALOT of comments on how great it sounds.

My mods are in my sig, so you can see I am fairly stock.

If you need the part numbers, just PM me and I will find them....nevermind, I just looked them up:

SUM-630805 GLASS PACK 18" 2-1/2" I/OA $21.95 2 $43.90

Ya... I had deleted the mufflers and liked the sound but after replacing the resonator with a 25 dollar xpipe it sounds wonderful. I dont know about the op but I dont have much drone, it not terribly loud and dont get much popping. The couple shops I've been at loved it... everyone is surprised its NOT louder without any mufflers.
