big time oil mess

big time oil mess
So I emptied my catch can last night, checked my oil, and went on my way. I forgot to fashion the oil dipstick back on the whole way (I THINK), among spilling a little oil on my header during the top-off. On my way to work I make it to a stop sign and see a **** load of white smoke coming from under my hood, so I pull over and look... this dipstick spewed oil all over the intake, battery, valve cover, headers, exhaust, and all over the sound deadener under the hood. I had my PCV system capped off and put in a catch can with a breather... well, that kept a ton of extra pressure in the crankcase, I think, allowing the oil to get pushed up through. It was all through my fender well as well. I think enough oil hit my tire that it splashed up through.
Also, it ran down my exhaust and was on my pipes, which I'm thinking is partly from the GUNK engine degreaser and garden hose cleaning all this mess up.
I'm hoping it's only from the dipstick and I'm not just missing something here... the oil soaked battery tells me that's the case.

Sorry to hear about that. I recommend a can of self-emulsifying engine degreaser (generic stuff from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts) with a big brush, like from Meguiar's. In fact, even if your engine is relatively clean, you should still consider those two things. You won't believe how clean your engine bay will look afterwards--including the aluminum block. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.
Edit: WTF is with that Amazon logo?

Sounds like you have an issue with crankcase ventilation. You shouldn't be pushing oil out of the dipstick tube. Might look over your setup and make sure all lines are clear and vented properly.

You can't have a breather on the catch can because you are letting metered air out and unmetered air into the system. It has to be a closed system if you have a mass air flow sensor. Also I would say the oil was slung out of the oil dipstick hole as it is above the windage tray. I don't understand how you could need a vacuum pump unless they used low tension rings or something.
