Default 05 ctsv Ls2 block swap/conversion

hello all, I have a 2005 cts v that the stock shortblock decided to let go. The ls6 block is no longer any good.I came across a really good deal on a disassembled ls2 block and rotating assembly. What all is it going to take to put this in my v. What all can I reuse and not reuse from the stock LS 6? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind this is just a bare LS2 block with rods pistons and crankshaft.

It depends on where the ls2 came from. 05 corvette, 05/06 gto and tbss all used the 24x reluctor wheels.

2006+ ls engines used the 54x wheels.

You have a 24x wheel.

You would need a lingenfelter trg-002 or equivalent to avoid pressing a new reluctor wheels onto the new block.

The gross majority of the sensors are going to be the exact same. The only real difference (that I can think of l), is the ls2 knock sensor is in the side of the block, and the ls1/6 is under the intake in the valley cover.

Your heads, cam, and intake will fit just fine, they're the same ones on the ls2.

Small correction. 58x. And they started the conversion in '06; it wasn't a complete changeover. '07 was when it was basically all motors.

Don't ask me why I put 54x. Well chalk it up to exhaustion.

The block an rotating assembly came out of a 2005 Pontiac GTO. I was told that I could not use the ls6 Valley cover, the LS 6 front timing cover, or the ls1 timing set.

The LS2 out of all GTOs should be the correct reluctor. Its the vettes that get co fusing, some came with the 24, some with 58, some 24s made it into 06 vettes from what ive read. I have only seen 58s in 06s that ive worked on though. Cluster **** of a situation really. But if you want to confirm, when you pop the pan off, look at the back of the crank, 2 wheels is the 24, 1 wheel is a 58. The sensor is also different colors... Black should be the 24 I think and grey is the 58

So is that all I have to worry about? Just the 24/5 wheel? Everything else from my ls6 will swap over to the ls2 block?

The knock sensors are on the side of the motor on the LS2.

Where is this sensor? Can you see it with the engine still in the car?

Thanks

Passenger side, bottom of the block, right behind #6. Its right in front of the bell housing flange. I'm sure you can see it when the motor is in the car, but its kinda tucked up in there.
