Thumbs up Cadillac Racing Team spotted @ VIR

Showed up for late this afternoon for an HPDE @ VIR over the next two days. We had to wait outside the track until 5:30, at which point we were released to head into the paddock. While we were waiting, we could hear something nasty testing on track. Well, turned out it was Cadillac's World Challenge team with a couple ATS-V.Rs. They were done on track when we were allowed into the paddock, so I didn't get a chance to see them running at all , but got some good pics as they were loading them into the car haulers.

^^^ The angle of this picture is a bit misleading. (I was just blindly holding the camera over my head to take the pic.) What you can't tell from the pic is just how far back the engine sits. I could easily get into the engine bay and squat down between the back of the radiator/heat exchanger and the front of the engine. In the couple pictures of the hood off the car you can see how massive the duct is.

Look at the size of those flares!

That's a second fender; not a flare! 😀

That's a badass thing to happen upon. What did they sound like?

Kind of like the video clips I've seen of the Ford GT when it was testing - they're both V6TT, so not surprising. You could tell it was a legit racecar based on the sequential shifting, popping and banging up and down.

The ATS-V.R is no joke, but I miss the V8 roar of the old CTS-V.R

Couldn't find a proper fly-by but I didn't look for long. There are a few in the obvious Caddy-sponsored videos but the editor couldn't be bothered to turn the music down for even two seconds to hear anything the car had to say.

What is it with car videos with no actual CAR SOUND?!

Edit: Ok I let my lazy get ahead of me:

Actual car sounds

Andy Pilgrim selling it

Agreed 1000%.

Is it sick that I really *LIKE* the gear whine in the third video?

When I was up at Lime Rock, Johnny said the thing he missed the most from the switch to the ATS was the sound that the Katech V8 made. He said he could pull alongside another car and they knew he was there and the sound would almost scare them out of the way...

V8 fearmongering. Love it. 😎

Well damnit, we need to build one, then! Couldn't this be sorta red-necked with a 4.8 crank, a lonely LS7-ish block and some custom pistons? Like at what point do we really need that spendy crank?
