06 Steering wheel functions
#4
I looked up PAC-SWI-X and bascally it works with the aftermarket head units remote control to make steering wheel commands. I have a Kenwook 890HD which does have a working remote and I found this listed for the car....

Work or not, for $85 it's worth a chance. Anybody using one of these?

I had a PAC-SWI-X in my Firehawk years ago. It's kind of a hokey setup because you have to put the transmitter somewhere in the view of the sensor. If the transmitter got hit with direct sunlight, the commands didn't work. If you could find a location to mount it that doesn't get hit with sunlight when you drive, it should work.
You would have to work with PAC to see which wires you need to use on their adapter (there's 10 or so wires, and you'd only use 2).
Here it is for $45
If you see my thread on the Double DIN Chinese head unit I have installed, you can see what wires you need to hi-jack and connect to the SWI-X

I used Axxess before and loved it, you can program it for just about any feature

Im sure it will, I think he just needs to find the right adapter harness, you basically program each button into the Axxess and it does the rest, very simple and easy, the hard part is just counting the LEDs blinking as you select the feature. I was going to try these while integrating the side buttons into my Parrrot if I go the with the base CTS DIC

it honestly depends on what your radio can do, but I prefer to hard wire everything and anything if possible, rules out any headaches or issues and looks much cleaner IMO

If the Kenwood has a wired input, then I believe the PAC SWI-RC is the match.

I have the PAC-SWI-PS on my Trans Am and that just plugs into the "Remote" port in the back of the head unit.

The axxess kit linked above wound up working for this.
Even though they don't have a listing for the V1, the kit is pretty universal so I started out by using the standard kit and the CTS instructions as a guide. The CTS uses a 3 wire steering wheel control system and the V1 only uses a one wire system which threw me off initially.
Eventually I figured out that most GM cars use a one wire system and that the XLR uses the same color of steering wheel control input wire as the V1 so I followed the XLR instructions. Minus a couple of programming aggrevations, it works well.
