Default CTSV vs. GTO LS1...

I am a current LS1 forum member and 04 GTO owner who is curious about the differences in power plants. It is my understanding both have the LS1. If this is correct, than how is Cadillac squeezing an extra 50hp? Exhaust, intake?
Of course, all is null and void if the CTS does not have the LS1. Thanks.

Not having driven a GTO, but the dealer I got my V from says that is a "Creampuff" compared to the V.

They have one for sale. And Chad drove it, he does own a V.

It has an LS6, which is essentially the same thing as an LS1, just has different heads and a different cam. Mod-wise, they are equal, niether is better than the other (engine wise).

Don't forget the block, and depending on the year LS1, the intake. The LS6 is better from the factory, so IMHO, it's a better engine.

The LS2 GTO has more cubes, more compression and is over 200 pounds lighter than the V, which in most estimation would make it faster than the V. However, the V does have lower gearing and beat the GTO by .2" in the quarter mile in Motor Trend's shootout.

Stock 04's the CTS-V should have the advantage.
Stock 05's I can't see how the GTO loses, although it did in MT. I'm sure the gearing plays a part, 3.73's vs. 3.42's.

I also read that our tranny is geared specifically to move our heavier car in 1st and 2nd.

So along with the rear gear this would add up.

Great point. The V spends very little time in first or second gear.

The transmision in the V is the same as the Z06.

I wish I could remember where I read that.

I'm sure they said the V trans was specific, I should say the gearing, I know the trans is the same.

Yeah but that is so little difference it would come down to the driver imo. Plus considering the fact the CTS-V cost alot more, the '05 GTO is not a bad choice.

Peace

The LS6 makes more power up top than the LS2 so it will also pull harder there as well.

The LS6 also has different rails and I believe injectors when compared to the 04 LS1. Very little differences in reality.

The difference between an LS1 block and an LS6 block are revised oil channels / valleys which help oil flow better, no performance difference at all.

How do you come up with that? Straight up as delivered by Chevy the LS6 hands the LS1 its ***. The LS1 is a great motor. The LS6 was even better in all respects. Otherwise, GM would not have used so many LS6 parts on the LS1 and now the LS2. Look a little deeper and you'll see the significant differences. They are the same platform and that's about all.

Here is a great link. Instead of debating the differences here are the documented lists. http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/z06/index.html

It has been proven the LS6 block has no more potential for performance than an LS1 block. Show me where I am wrong?
