Default Kook's 1 7/8" LT headers / MagnaFlow cat-back DYNO

Test car: 2004 Cadillac CTS-V 5.7L - KOOK's 1 7/8" primary LT header, MagnaFlow Cat-back Exhaust.

Due to the nature of the stock cat-back design an exhaust system must be choosen to mate to the header directly. In this case the MagnaFlow cat-back is a direct bolt-on (NO CUTTING OR WELDING REQUIRED) to the Kook's Product.

Stock HP: 345.56
Stock TW: 334.35

KOOK's 1 7/8 LT Headers / MagnaFlow Cat-back HP: 375.62
KOOK's 1 7/8 LT Headers / MagnaFlow Cat-back TQ: 360.09

Peak HP gain: 30
Peak TQ gain: 26

MAX HP gain: 31 @ 6200 rpm
MAX TQ gain: 29 @ 5200 rpm

These test results are on the STOCK tune/calibrations.

For those interested, this is a car I am also going to be tuning and should be able to squeeze a little more power from the combo. I will post my tuned results shortly.

I agree, very nice considering no tune. Normal tune gains are from 15~30 on near stock/bolt on cars. I'm down for 50WHP for under $2500.

yes, very impressive!!

hows the fit and accesibility to the plugs? The engine is quite tight and wanted to see if there were any issues with banging.....well, nothing a little ol' poly motor mount wont fix!! I know in my Z28 its almost impossible stock, but since the rear of the motor is quite reachable.

You got yourself a strog runner though the power increase is more than what i expected. Could you rely back the dynoing info like humidity, temp., correction (if any) factor...you know, the usual.

Also, how does she sound? I've never heard the magnaflow on stock manifolds so im wondering how loud, compared to stock is this setup.

congrates...let see what she can do with a little tune....close to 400rwhp is right around the corner with a tune, and exhaust!!! (does the car have an intake?)

that actually sound good. I really liked the in car and it really doesnt have much difference from my experience in my car.

Now, i believe that was with the stock manifolds, right? How much nastier is it with the kooks?

HEy, richard...whats up? Is that you driving in a drift style race?

You should change the title......these are NOT 1 7/8 headers. They are 1 3/4 headers.

These are pre-production units, so i can check with George but when my micrometer reads 1.810 ... I read 1 7/8" (1.875) tube not 1 3/4" (1.750) ... My expereince shows tube diameter is reported as a +0.000 / - 0.030" diameter.

Is that 1.810 ID or OD?
1.810 is actually closer to 1.750 than it is to 1.875. Assuming you measured OD(easiest to do with a mic) 1.810 minus .030 would be 1.78 or right at 1 3/4.

um...i think i missed something? How can you tell if its a 1 3/4 or a 17/8 header? I just dont see it and if tis in my face well, i'l smack myself when proven!

Anyways, does are still some nice gains over stock manifolds!!

1-7/8 is just a bit larger than 1-3/4. The better size would be whatever makes the most power on your combo. I doubt there would be much difference between the two on a mostly bolt on LS6. So I would go with the 1-7/8s just in case you ported the heads or added a blower later and might actually see some benefit from the slightly larger primaries.

From the graphs that I have seen their realy isnt that big of a difference in power numers wise between the two. You'll have more peak hp with th elarger pipe while the smaller one wil net a "fatter" torque number.

I believe the biggest difference is in the feel of the motor and not the actual power gains. A motor with t 1 7/8 will feel lighter, meaning free reving as if your running a cutout before your catback. While the 13/4 will generate a tighter pedal feel and torqueir' motor.

Of course there really isnt a huge difference between the two but enough to make your decision on what you want the motor to behave like.

Well, since the LS6 likes higher rpm, and future power mods are planned, go with the bigger pipes, then a more restrictive muffler system won't be as detrimental on hp gains.
