Default Kooks Headers /Corsa Exhaust Vid Clip

here's a clip of my exhaust, it was 50 degrees out yesterday so i cleaned it up, and then it snows like 7 inches today, go figure... anyways, if it gets revved over 4k it sounds like something is rattling, is that normal? it sounds like something is loose or vibrates, let me know what you think

Ranger,

No cats, right? Sounds like some exhaust rasp. Sounds a bit aggressive!

ya some magnaflow metallic cats will take that rasp away. sounds good though, it'll sound "cleaner" with the cats and i think you'll like it more too

I wouldn't count on it- I have that exact same setup (Kooks, MF cats, Corsa) and it's very raspy with that same "death rattle" when the RPMs fall.

Question: When you floor it with your windows down, does it start making a "flapping/clacking" noise from 4k up? I've spent almost $300 changing gaskets and getting things welded in an effort to track it down, and no luck.

By the way- rock on, Rangers. My Brother's in the sandbox right now with the 1st Ranger BN.

That isn't 'rasp', it's the infamous "Corsa Rattle". After a few month's the welds in the rear can's loosen up a little, and on decel, it will rattle/buzz. It does this untill the exhaust get's warmed up and expands. It's definately the rear cans, as I replaced my resonator, and it didn't make a difference.

I heard that they had fixed this issue with the new versions.

I just haven't got around to contacting Corsa to get a replacement set of rear cans. Corsa has a lifetime warranty on their products for the original purchaser.

I'll be setting up the same with the cats in late April. I'm pretty close to you (15 minutes from Gurnee). Maybe I can let you hear mine. If the snow ever melts! How did you like Speed Inc? Did they do the installs as well as the tune?

ya that'll be sweet, Speed Inc. installed my headers and short throw and tuned it, they definitely know they're stuff! the exhaust was on it when I bought it, Mike, are you going to their open house at the end of april?? Trukk, is there anyway to have them fix mine even though I'm the 2nd owner of the car???

RR,

I'm not sure. The best bet would be to call Corsa directly. I had an issue a while back where I lent my car to a friend, and he ran over a lawn gnome and slightly dented my original corsa resonator. I called and talked with Jim Browning, Jr, and eplained the situation, and he offered to sell me just a resonator by itslef, which is something they usually don't do. He was very reasonable to work with.

I'd call and talk to Jim.

I'm thinking about ordering some Magnaflow canisters from Jegs and having them welded in place of the Corsas. I love the Corsa sound, but every Corsa car I've ever heard has the same death rattle on decel, so I'm not confident that replacement canisters will hold up any better than the first ones did.

thanks trukk, will do. I'm just confused on how it could be the catback, because before having the headers installed a few weeks ago, there was NO rattle whatsoever... it was a smooth clean sound coming from the corsa catback, didn't think the headers would make that kind of difference in sound, or effect the exhaust in this way...

The rattle from the Corsas on decel has been there since day 1- the flapping/clacking noise under WOT didn't appear until I added the headers, which is why I've been bleeding cash trying every kind of gasket on the market- I thought it was the headers.

The more threads I read, I'm beginning to think the extra airflow at high RPM makes whatever's rattling in the Corsa on decel make the clacking noise.

FYI- two Magnaflow canisters from Jegs (same part # used in MF catback system) are less than $200 shipped. I may go that route.

I have kooks no cats and magnaflow, and mine makes wierd noises too. What would an exhaust leak around the gaskets sound like?
