Default Test Drove a V - Have a few ?

Yesterday I test drove a CTS-V for the first time. It was an '05 with w/ 27K miles that was being sold through a Caddy dealer with the 6/100 warranty for an asking price of $29.9K. There are two things that I noticed on the test drive that I wanted to ask about. The idle felt a litte rough, for a stock car. I have not driven and LS6 before but it seemed to bump and hunt more than I expected as compared to a stock LS7 that I have driven alot. Is this normal? The next question was on the clutch. It seemed to feel like it was sticking to the floor a little and then would engage hard. I chirped 2nd gear without really meaning too, again is this normal? I am in the process choosing between a CTS-V or a new G8 GT as my next daily driver.

Sounds like it needs the hydrolics blead if the pedal is sticking. Mine idles smooth so it might need a set of plugs or something small like that.

Simply according to what I've read so far about these, the rough idle could be motor mounts need replacing & the clutch sounds like it needs servicing (fluid change) maybe.

The idle shouldn't be rough if the MMs are broke. The motor might move a little but the rpms wouldn't go up and down.

Yon know though, I don't really remember the tach moving much at all just that it felt rough, shaking the car. Maybe it could have been the mounts? Any other signs to look for with broken or worn mounts?

The motor will have a small little lope to it. Its the cam that it has. It evens out with a little bit of gas.

Not too sure what you mean about the clutch peddle....Mine feels totally different than my WS6..not much effort to push it down or let it up. Your just going to have to get used to it....after a day of driving you should be fine.

You have to remember you have almost 400LBS of torque running through 8.5inch 245s....so your going to get some rubber into second if you shift at higher RPMS.

Lastly...I don't even use 1st gear..its totally useless. I start out in 2nd...then 4th and the 6th.

Either problem sounds easy enough to trouble shoot and take care of. Use it as a bargaining tool and hammer them down to $25k

I brought mine under a month ago and noticed the same problems with mine, I have a appt to get those things checked out, but with warranty I am not worried about nothing, once my Impala is done getting its mods I will be dropping the caddy off, so I can get with you then and let you know what the dealer finds.

as long as you have the 6yr 100k warranty, which is a must, you will be glad you got it, that's a deal... of course always try to haggle an out the door price after tax etc. maybe get them to throw on the Corsa catback and or the fg2 suspension upgrade... a year ago i paid 33k for an 04 with 14k miles and was equipped with Corsa... thing was babied by an older guy and it was worth every penny and then some... no regrets here

I realize that with the warranty I should be able to get these things fixed. This is the only CTS-V that I can find for sale within 100 miles and I wanted to see if this was normal or really a problem since I have not driven one before. I am going to drive a G8 GT today and see how it compares. I know that the CTS-V should be the better performer of the two. So what do you think a good price/deal for the V would be? It is Red and in very nice condition except for some curb rash on one of the wheels. The tires are BFG g-force KDW-2 and look to have 70% tread or so. I don't see any other mods on the car.

Words of wisdom,,, I like your thinking.
Thy it, you may get it, as many salespeople do not have a clear understanding of the V and its minor quirks.

Yep, but I would take two G8s over one BMW 550.

Can you give me any insight on a comparison between the two? I will get a better idea tonight myself but 2 short dealership test drives are hard to really judge the cars. If shear performance was my #1 factor then the V would be the choice but my Camaro is my "race" car so I am stil not sure.

Remember, 6yr/100K is from the original date of service. You're good until 100K miles, and probably sometime in 2009 or 2010.

As for the rough idle, they all idle a little rough. RPM should stay pretty stable though.
