wtb - fg2s
thanks guys. Neversatisfied I looked for your thread but couldnt find it,,,now I see since you bumped it..Im tentatively interested but I don't think I can swing that cost..
I've been through some used fg2s already- you'd think I would learn my lesson...my previous ones were ok up til 40k ish, but crapped fast afterward...It's hard for the seller to know when they are going to blow...(the fronts are the gamble- the rears are bulletproof) and since the fg2s can't be bought separately, it's even more of a gamble. You could keep your rears on and go through 2 sets of fronts in their lifespan...
At mid mileage life, the shock probably won't withstand a hard hit as well, so that's why people probably see more failures in that range...if they never had an incident, I can't see them blowing out... just dying ever so slowly. One of my sets had 75k when I pulled them and they felt nice but floaty...still stiffer than fe4s though.
That said, at this point I'll probably just drop the cash for new unless the price is low enough to justify. No offense to you guys at all here-- but I probably wouldn't go more than 250, maybe 300 on a used set unless they had less than 5k miles, and were on the seller's car that whole time. I just missed a set for 650 with 3k on them because I was asleep at the wheel and about **** my pants. Anyway, a 30k set is good for one more year of pretty nice ride before they start to fade...the 29k beforehand is what one has to decide whether it's worth the 500-800 upcharge for new..that I can't determine because I've not owned a brand new set.
Im sure it also depends on whether the buyer uses them on a lowered car, and if the seller used them on a lowered car. They get stressed much faster on lowered cars because they are basically "preloaded" further than stock at all times hence under much more static pressure...road conditions for both are factors too...
I'm going to try my qa1s with my 600/650 springs this weekend and see how that feels. I really want them to work out but the jury is still out. 99% if the time they are ok but the fg2's do a better job of keeping the car up on it's toes in daily driving and on uneven/rough roads . If I'm still not happy with the ride, I am going to pull the trigger on something else and sell the qa1s.
I have a lead on a new set of the fgs that might pan out, if the price is right. my wife is going to kick my ***..ill have to get these shipped to the office!

No hard feelings man. Was just throwing it out there. They came off a factory height daily driver that was used primarily on the highway. No track time at all. They are in great shape.
Good luck with finding a super low mile set though. Obviously that's ideal but you'll pay for em. These things aren't cheap as we all know.

Thanks.. I'm not looking for a super low mile set in particular, I just wouldn't pay a premium for anything else..
They are pricey, new. But they are still used shocks. Residual value is subjective..
For me, right now, a used set would be just another band aid so I could get my qa1s off and wait to find a new set for a good price.

I hear ya. What's the most you'd be looking to spend? I told another member I'd go $450 shipped but that's about it. I'll eBay em if nothing happens soon and I know someone will snag them up for that.

Probably 300 plus shipping, which I can take care of via ups myself..I know that's low to most but I just can't fork over much more in round 3 of used shocks...
I you'll take 450 and you have a buyer at 450, I would sell..If I'd never owned a used set I'd buy these in a heartbeat but I bought my last set used at this price and for whatever reason they just didn't hold up, so I had basically wasted that money. I think they had a much rougher life than the ones you are selling...
I have a lead on a new set for a very fair price, so I am leaning toward that although it's still way more than I want to spend on yet another set of shocks. I'm somewhat jaded too because I sunk well over a grand into my qa1s and they still aren't what I thought they would be.
I've spent about 2k on used shocks over the past 4 years. I should have just dropped the coin on a real setup but honestly I would have to drive one of these cars with high end coilovers (lg,kw,penske, etc) to believe the hype. I don't think you can beat the fg2s.
Actually I don't think you could really improve the overall balance and finesse of the stock/fg2 setup. The car just drifts effortlessly and transitions so smooth. Changing setups might improve the ability of the car in more extreme situations but for day to day, forget it.. If they hadn't designed the *** end so high I wouldn't touch a thing but I hate the stinkbug stance. The V looks 10000 times better slightly lowered.

I understand man. I just can't go that low. I know they will have no problem moving them for the $450 shipped. I have a FedEx account myself so it's just easier to include shipping in the price. As far as the other shocks u bought, sounds like u just got a bad set. But... If you've spent that much already on temp hold me overs, why not just pony up the cash once and for all and buy a set of KW coilovers with new shocks that are fully adjustable if buying another used set isn't appealing to you? That's what I would do in your case. Most people are satisfied with the fg2's and few people have issues with em. Of course there is no specific date on when they will fail but u can get a defect in anything u buy.
