Default Post your engine coolant temps

What engine do you have, what cooling system mods if any and what temp does it typically run?

LS6 Alradco rad, 206*

LS6, Alradco.

If I am on the highway, it barely touches 186.

If I am around town, it will very rapidly climb to 230-ish and stay there until I get some air moving through it--even in the sub-freezing ambient temperatures we have now. The stock rad wouldn't get this hot in stop-go traffic, but it did get a lot hotter on the highway than the Alradco does.

Hmm weird. The reason i ask is because my car used to stay right at 195, it would never touch 200 ever not even in traffic in the summer, then my car sat for the better part of 8 months and it hangs out at 206. Then i installed the Alradco and still no change, i have a 160 t-stat but have not installed it yet.

I'll give you my readings for the current weather. Hovers around 45F. With 160 stat (and accompanying tune to turn the fans on earlier), was getting up to 185 in traffic, but 140-145 on the freeway. Was running so cool on the freeway that I wasn't able to get the cabin to heat up to my liking. Swapped out for a 180 stat, have been getting up to about 195 in traffic, 180 on the freeway (no surprises there). Fan temps haven't been changed yet.

LS2, stock radiator.

I have a larger radiator, 160 t stat, running mostly water.... Will run around 185 to 190 when over 40mph... But in traffic or sitting on a hot day it runs around 210 to 215.

LS6, ~425rwhp

All stock cooling system - Essentially the same indications that others have reported. Temp stayed around 192ish at speed. Below about 40mph, temp would start to rise and would get as high as the low 230s if I were stuck in stop-and-go (or just plain old stop ) traffic.

Stock pump, stock t-stat, Alradco radiator - Basically no change. Slightly slower to heat up, but not as much of a change as I was anticipating.

Stock pump, 180F t-stat, Alradco radiator - Temp sits at 155-60F on the highway in 50F ambient temps - awesome . Slower to heat up, but still does it.

I swear that the car didn't do this when I had the original LS6 in it (~380rwhp) with all stock cooling system, but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention? Actually, I know it's not just my imagination, because the same guy tuned the car when I put Kooks on the original engine and again when I replaced the engine. He had a helluva time tuning the new engine because it would get hot after every dyno pull and he'd have to wait for it to cool back down.

I was running the exact same...I think I had the wrong T-Stat. I put the OE one back in for the time being.

The best part is when you pull the table with the fan settings in EFI Live (not sure about HP tuners) it's in celcius......

HP tuners you can toggle from F° to C° and to K°

For the LS1B (04-05) LS6 engine CTS-V.

STOCK Settings:

Fan 1 On Temp 226°F
Fan 1 OFF temp 219°F

Fan 2 On 235°F
Fan 2 OFF 227°F

Run Time Ignition off enabled over 246°F
Run time = 120 seconds

Remember, Fan 1 = both fans running in a series circuit (~6V) (half the speed)
Fan 2 = both fans running parallel (~12V+) in a parallel (full speed)

LS2 all stock except for exhaust, once warmed up it stabilizes about 190. In prolonged stop and go traffic it can get up to 215ish but quickly drops temp when the fans kicks in. In average stop and go it usually does not even get above 205.

Entirely stock cooling system including stock rad, t-stat, piping on a fully built V. I must say the highest temp I have ever seen on this car running normaly has been around 212-216 on a 105 degree summer day. Most it ever really gets to in the summer is around 210ish but stays around 205 stopped at a light and as soon as its moving its between 190-200. Ive noticed it loves 198 for some reason in the summer and 192 currently in the winter time. Only time I have ever seen 230 is when my rad hose cracked and I shortly saw 240)
