Default off-roading

I'm starting to look around for an off-road truck / jeep...something cheap (like 4gs or less) that is reliable...I'd love to get a diesel

Would like to use the car as the winter car and an off-road toy at the cottage on the trails...anyone into that kind of stuff...what are your recommendations?

Jeeps are fun, cold in the winter though, Horid on fuel and most leak a little somewhere.

I have a well built Jeep used mostly offroad.

I'd prefer to stay chevy- if a jeep comes at the right price I'd go that way, but I get more and more diehard chevy every day

The problem is I read about the earlier 6.5 diesels in the chevs not being great.

I actually went to see a lifted 4x4 crew cab S10 and it impressed me. As much as I would like a full size if I go with a truck, the Sonoma / S10 is growing on me as long as it is a crew cab...parts are cheapppp for those things to!

maybe talk to a 4x4 specialty shop to see what type of vehicle is not flat out off roader but capable + comfortable for street use too. shop in Markham has a good rep; RockSpyder4x4, talk to Jim Macdonald, good guy.

generally performance shops don't like to just "talk" unless you are spending a few bucks with them.

I've been starting to look into the Blazers more recently as well. I just want a toy to take through the mud pits, have some fun, and be a secondary to the camaro. Right now I have the saturn and it's boring.

Something like a blazer with a 6" lift and some 33's could be loads of fun, except I hear the 4x4 is vacuum controlled and has some issues off roading sometimes

Just bought myself a Jeep...should be a good little starter. Came out to be a pretty solid deal, put the deposit down and I am going to pick the thing up this week

1999 4.0L with a 4" lift kit on 32" mud tires...came with hard top / soft top / bikini top and a brand new winch ...whole 9 yards. I might look to pickup some extra lights for it eventually, otherwise it needs nothing...should make for a little fun on some dirt roads and some fun in the snow!

I'll look into it thanks! I'll get some pictures up soon to if I can ever get a few moments...

I have pretty much everything I need to go off-roading at the moment...the new winch should be more than enough to get me out of a sticky situation.

I hope to install that this weekend along with busting out the wire wheel and starting to go to town on the frame. I'm going to slap it with a rust inhibitor and then slap it with something like a rhino liner.

The beauty about the lift on this thing is I can probably toss the rear end on a set of ramps and then sit on my new little stool with wheels and wheel around underneath as I do the work...which beats lying on a piece of cardboard working 2 inches from my face on the camaro!!

Keep the tire dia to a 31" and you might keep axles under it. 33" and say buhbyyyeee lol. Nice buy though, Jeeps are KICK *** fun.

Heres a diff I helped set up for the last 4x4 we did. hehe can you say BIGGGGG. This thing KICKED *** at Swea Peas MudBog two weeks ago. 6.0L, LS3 head, 4L80, NP205 etc etc etc. But the show was stolen buy the Grand Cherokee guy lol. He blew it to bits in the end, but put on a hella show first

LOL hell no! Im retired

One of my good friends is a jeep fanatic. He off roads a lot. Snapped a lot of axles but so long as he stays 31"? All good. They arent "bad" axles in there, just heavy mud and side load coupled with big tire = bad news.

Depends what rear.
Dana 35 is probably smaller then a fbody ten bolt. I snapped a d35 shaft with 31s in snow.
If it has a dana 44 youre good to go.

Tj's are warm in winter. They are ok in winter with
a soft top until the temp hits -30, then its winter jacket time on the highway. They are fine in -40 with a hardtop.

Nope. D30 front and d35 rear. D44 rear was optional.
Rubicons got 44s front and rear with lockers.

ohhhh Where are the RPO codes on this thing...I want to see what I have. This guy had a bunch of options in my jeep, maybe I got lucky...I never get lucky

You aren't retired, stop kidding yourself...I just push like 6 guys your way when I was selling my stock 10 bolt...I had more guys responding to my kijiji ad about where to get the 8.8 than I did people that wanted to buy the damn rear!!

D44 was not a popular option Its probably a D30Front and D35 rear. The 8.8 makes a good rear swap if you stay with 35's

Watch the front fenders they like to rust.

My fenders have surface rust- they bolt on and off and you can replace them for pretty cheap...or just take them off all together!!

I cant wait to throw this winch on this weekend. There are so many things I want to buy, but I don't want to spend any money lol

Then it's which toy to drive...the camaro or the jeep....decisions decisions...maybe it was better when I didnt have a second toy lol
