Default cam for 5.3 and vic jr?

I just picked up a 5.3 for my chevelle and I am pretty sure I am going to go with the Vic Jr carb intake for it. Ive dealt a good amount with EFI set-ups but not to much experence with what exactly a carb set-up like in comparisson (or contrast) to the EFI set-ups as far cams go. Like to they like closer or wider LSA's, I would they both share the same concept in lift, and the duration should be matched to the intake and ci of the motor? For now the motor will be stock other headers and a cam (with supporting mods). Also I dont mind if the drivablity isnt perfect. Thanks for any help.

I think a hot cam would do great, but you are not letting us know what the application will be, desired outcome of the overall performance of the engine, setup, ect.

It a just "street" car, and Id like to would like to something with good mid to top end power. For example when I had my C5Z, when it was the stock LS6 motor I ran a 238/244 .605/.612 114 cam and loved it.

Yea, something like a hot cam unless you want to squeeze it out in the revs and make a bit more top end power.

Also what size carb and what size stall would be desired for my set-up? I am thinking up putting a TH350 or TH400 behind it to get it going, eventually going to go T56 not going to be able to do that for awhile. Thanks for the advise!

With the hit cam, a 3000 would let it roll out hard. A 650 would work great for the carb.

Hot cam?? You're kidding right?

As for the cam something in the 220-230 intake and 222-232 exhaust on a 110-113 lsa with a 108-09 intake centerline. Try to stay under .600 lift to avoid having any piston to valve clearance issues.

N/A 5.3's with stock heads and 9.7 compression like a straight up split or max 2* on th exhaust. You didnt state if it was an LM7 w/ 706 or 856 heads or a newer 799-243 headed motor.

Hope this helps to steer you in a better direction.

And I will be going with a custom grind 230/234 with around .600 lift on a 113 with some cleaned up 706 heads milled .050 and a 150~200 plate kit.

I scraped my turbo visions for a carb set-up running a victor jr with the msd system.

I believe it's an 02 motor, it has the 856 heads. For the can I was thinking something in 220's like a 220/224 or something similar on a tighter lsa (110-112). Am I on the right track? Along with not dealing with carburated motors much I haven't dealt to much with smaller motors, mostly LS1's and bigger.

A victor Jr flows better then any LS1-lS6 or Fast 90-92... So a straight split will be fine, if your exhaust is up to par..... Like 1 3/4 primarys with 2 1/2 true duals W/ X-pipe...... Carbs need a good vacuum signal to idle right.

If you want a great off the shelf cam that is proven in a 5.3 check out the TR220 or the TSP 220 both these cams make around 330-340 rwhp with good torque 320-340 and thats with a truck intake. So add 20 rwhp for the Victor at least. They both come on a 112-or 114 but you can order them on a 110 or 111 for a lower power band and some chop. A 2800 converter of larger would work very nicely. Your car should push 3800lbs or more.
