I have done it, what you need depends, as there are a couple ways to do it.
I used my old BBC scattersheild, Mcleod LSX +.200" aluminum flywheel, Ls7 pilot bearing, self fabricated pivot ball mount welded to scattersheild, and modified oem mechanical clutch linkage. Use clutch of your choice. I use a Ram single iron drag clutch.
you could fabricate a mount/bracket to use your existing clutch cable to actuate the clutch instead of mechanical linkage.

I'm running a TKO 600 behind an LS2 motor. Bought everything from Kiesler engineering. I'm using their hydraulic throw out bearing though. I bought my GM specific TKO new from them also. They have kits for just about anything.

I think anything that will mount a Muncie will work for the TKO. Here is a short but pretty good thread about the topic, including a link to a complete kit from Pace Auto. You might call them and see if it works with a TKO

Another good thread with mechanical linkage info. try searching the conversion section for TKO.

I think using the factory cable to actuate the clutch would be easy for you to do. you would just need to fab up a mount/bracket for the cable.

What is sop difficult about the T56? Is goes in simple and the internal hydraulics in the trans actually free up room from a external clutch fork and external slave.

Not to mention a T56 can be had for allot cheaper.

I dont think the T56 is that cheap actually. ****,.. Im used to the T5 thats in the mustang now, they are a dime a dozen and you can find them for a couple hundred on craiglist. I will probably go with the T56 but I was just looking for the simplest bolt in and go method cause this is all new to me and Im not a real good fab guy.

Got mine for 1000$ with everything, clutch and all, just have to look around. Damn good trans and 6th gear is fun for those like me with retarded deep gears on the street.

Check with Quick Time Performance. They make a bellhousing (RM-6037) for mating a T5 to an LS engine. I don't know what else would be involved, but may be an option for keeping your T5 in place with your LS swap? Here are the specifics listed on their website:

RM-6037 - LS Bellhousing to Ford TKO 500-600/TR3550/T5 Mustang Transmission

Height = 6.925
Trans. Bore Ø = Universal 4.850/4.910
Engine = Chevy LS-1, LS-2, LS-3, LS-6, LS-7, LS-9
Trans. = Ford TKO 500-600, TR3550, T5 Mustang/Jerico 4-5 Speed
Clutch Ø = 11"
Flywheel = 168 tooth or 153 tooth
Weight = 22#
Full engine plate, trani ball and grade 8 bolts included
