Default Mechanical for vacuum secondaries? 5 speed, 5.3L, 2900lbs

Here's my plan:
The motor:
5.3L L33 LS
TSP 224r cam (I think the 228r would be over kill on the 5.3L)
Edelbrock performer RPM intake

The car:
2900-3000lbs
5 speed Manual tranny
3.89 FDR
mainly street driven although will see up to 10 lapping events/track days (NOT drag racing)

I've been reading VS are better for street driven, heavy, automatic cars, and MS are better for lightweight, manual trans, WOT performance/race cars.

I assume I'm in the lighter category, but will mainly be street driven.

What do I choose?
750VS
or
650DP?

Thanks for any input

This decision is primarily about what kind of torque converter and rear gear you have. Since you have a manual transmission, I would say if you have a a 3.42 gear or higher numerical ratio, I would pick the 650DP.

sorry, final drive is 3.89

Also what fuel pump is everyone running on a set-up like this? Like what psi/gph? (im gathering 7psi/110gph is very popular)

Holley's web site has an interactive carb selection guide. The say a mechanical secondary carb is OK for manual transmission cars that are under 3100# and having a 3.73 or lower rear gear.

If you run a return style fuel system and 3/8 lines then a 90 gph pump or larger should be more than sufficient.

I would say the 1st gear ratio of the manual trans is part of the equation to, but I don't want to complicate this too much.

It can run great with both, but the DP would get my vote especially for the instant fuel demand you might want on the throttle stab.

I have heard the VS is a more forgiving carb when it comes to tuning.

Would a DP'er be a bad choice for someone just getting into holley's/carb's on cars?

I would not run a vacuu7m secondary on your gear ratio.
I don't think you will find it more difficult to tune.
