Default More bugs to fix....

So I got the ignition problem fixed and headed to the track last weekend for some test and tune. Without any seat time since last august neither I or the truck were ready. The truck started getting hot after a few passes and I didn't have a overflow so I got backed off the track. I then checked to see why because the truck had never overheated before. Long story short it had an air bubble and the thermostat never opened. After getting home and finding/fixing the problem it still creeps past 210 after awhile of run time. I removed the thermostat and now it takes about 20-30 min but it will still eventually creep past 210.

drill 2, 1/8" hole on the perimeter of the thermostat. this will allow it to circulate a tiny bit before the thermostat opens, and help you bleed off the air in the system.
You cant just pull the thermostat, because it short circuits the system.

I drilled out the checkball in the housing but that didn't help. Is there another thermostat housing I can get with a different style thermostat?

Yes. I found a 03 up therm housing so I could properly drill the wholes in the thermostat. It still gets hot. I guess in gonna have to get a bigger radiator. I just don't understand how I ran all last year with 5.3 without trouble. Only difference in the two motors are about 50-80hp and iron to aluminum.

You still might not have all the air out of the motor.

Burp the system like recommended above. I usually jack up the front end to get the radiator cap well above the motor, then pull one of the steam tube fittings off and fill until coolant comes out of that port.

There have been a couple of threads lately where people with used motors discoverd the steam tube passages to be completely blocked.
