i have a lq4 and i am swapping to 243s milled .020 and hand ported. what kind of compression are you looking for? i think we both should be good as far as pump gas. maybe someone else will chime in as several have swapped to these heads.

No worries 799's came on LS2's you have an iron block LS2 almost 11.1 compression it will run on 93 octane pick a cam with a fair amount of overlap and you can even mill the heads a little and still get away with running premium

I have an LQ9 with 243 heads and it comes out to 10.88 - 10.92:1 static depending on if you use 6.0 or 6.2 liter GM head gaskets. With my small 222/224 cam and a Victor Jr. it is fine with 27 degrees of timing on premium. My dynamic compression ratio is 8.43.

Imo just reuse the 317s. Milled up to .030, with ls2 head gaskets. 317/243/799 share exact same intake/exhaust ports, valve sizes. The difference is in the chamber design and size. 317 use diff chamber design and chamber size
