Default Hood clearance...SBC vs LS

Im still up in the air about going EFI or carb. I have fit a sbc with a rpm air gap and drop base filter under the stock hood(240z). Is the LS with a carb any taller with the carbed set up over the SBC? It was pointed out in another thread that the GMPP single plane was 1" lower than the Vic Jr so most likley will end up going that route. Any and all info would be great!

look on edelbrocks website for intake heights, that should help your decision out

I looked at the manifold height on the web site and they are very similar. The unknown is if the LS motor is "taller" in relation to the SBC. Lets say neither had a intake on them.

It may just be my mounts, but mine sure looks to site higher in the engine bay than the old sbc did that was in it. Im going to guess that its taller or as tall.

I believe it was a edlebrock air gap.

Thanks! I just won a bid on the GMPP single plane so at least now I will have the lowest total height to work with...

That intake with a drop base 14x4 air cleaner will fit under a oem z hood.
I run a taller intake, but also a 4" cowl, I have 2+" of room under my Hood

Mine is higher, roughly an inch. This could be due to engine mounts, intake height, or a combination of things.

Anyway, in order to get it to fit with a 14" filter, I modified an air cleaner assembly from a 403 Olds 2nd gen TA (has an offset carb hole, BTW - useful for shifting the assembly around for better alignment with things). Instead of using the band to attach the upper and lower halfs, i modded the upper half so it would be a slip fit into the lower half. That took about 1/2" out of the total height of the assembly. The whole deal now clears my factory hood by 1/8", where it didn't even come close before.

The Original Equipment air cleaner, on the original 305 SBC, cleared the hood by about 3/4" and used rubber seals to make a snug fit. It also used a smaller diameter 12" air cleaner element.
