Default 5.3 cam help

Just pick up a 5.3 to put in my 72 Camaro and was wondering what a good cam would be. It's going to be mostly a street car but will have a plate system on it for the track. I have a th400 with a 3500 stall and 4.11 gears.

With your stall, gear and car weight I would say 224/224 @ .050" on the conservative side and 230/230 @ .050" for the aggressive side. If you are running a Victor Jr. intake and you like a hotrod type idle, get a LSA of 108-110. If you are running a Performer RPM and/or want a smoother idle pick a 112 LSA. You will likely want an ICL of about 108-109.

I agree with everything mentioned, the mid 220s is a decent spot for a 5.3 grind with a tighter lsa, will make a 5.3 shine on the street and track.

I agree a mid 220 cam isnt to radical, but a tighter lsa is better for carbed ls motors

I ended up getting a 6.0 with a cam already in it. Forget the cam specs thaough. It's supposed to be a good cam for what I plan on doing
