Default Nitrous carb'd 5.3 cam question

Just looking for some opinions on a good cam to run. I know a custom cam would be the best choice, but just looking for a off the shelf cam right now.

car is a 86 cutlass, full weight street car. will have a th-400, converter will depend on cam choice, 10 bolt or 9 inch, and gears are still up in the air.

idle, driving, dealing with a big converter has no effect on me. car will be driven once or twice during the week, and mostly on the weekend/race track. looking to spray 150-175 ..

thanks

Tsp MS3 or tsp torquer v2 would both be good choices.

Those are a bit on the big side for a 5.3, especially if there will be no heads involved, but the torqer would be better of the two i think.

If you are going to spin it to 7000, it will work.

How much can the factory 5.3 heads be milled before having ptv issues? And what cam would be better suited for the added compression? Still the same? Or tr226 or tr228?

The heads go roughly .040 on milling before intake alignment issues, i have heard of folks going further. But the TR228 would be better for drag use.

Any idea what the compression would be with .040 milled? I know its best to check ptv clearance, but think it would be an issue?

Car will mostly be raced. Got the 5.3 cheap. Thanks

And I'm sorry, just noticed I've made a mistake. I've been talking about the tsp line of cams and not thunder racing.

A T-Rex is a great nitrous cam, at least on the 5.7. I'm inclined to believe it might be a bit too much cam for a 5.3 since it was designed to be one of the biggest off the shelf cams for a stock cube LS1. But since you said you're not going to be driving it Too often, I say take a look into the T-Rex cam.

Wonder what the full details are on the setup, needs suspension tuning, but looked solid otherwise.
